Jon Ralph on SEN today said Richmond wasn't going hard after Cloke and is taking a more wait and see approach because they believe he most likely will stay at Collingwood. The Club doesn't want to upset the apple cart going to our players about fitting Cloke in our salary cap when he might not even leave Collingwood and then if he doesn't come to Richmond having existing Tigers asking for a bigger cut themselves believing there's more $$$ on offer.

Maybe it's just me but I can't stand Ralph as a journo despite his Richmond allegiances.
Should be known as 'Shifter' given the number of times he changes his opinions in the face of a half decent alternative argument.
He always seems to shoot from the hip to come off all knowing but then once someone points out some simple facts to him, he rolls over like a dog.
Also think his football knowledge is pretty ordinary. Not a fan.

3AW says the rumour is the Cloke deal is done (ie. he's staying at Collingwood) and will be announced after the Pies' season is finished.

Barrett claimed tonight the Pies have caved into giving Cloke the 5 years that Daddy Damir wanted (albeit with conditions).

You would think the announcement would come now on the eve of the semi to show a sign of solidarity.. :-\

Anyway if true at least thats that out of the way..

I thought there always was a 5 year offer?

Cloke, Pies no closer: manager

    Samantha Lane

IF COLLINGWOOD has resolved to give Travis Cloke the unconditional five-year deal he is seeking, it is yet to inform the star forward's manager, who insists talks will resume only when the Pies' season concludes.

Ralph Carr who, along with Cloke's father David, is guiding the player through the protracted negotiation that will delay others until it is resolved, said tonight: ''There have been no [further] discussions. We said we weren't going to discuss it again until the end of the season.''

While Carr added ''all of us hope that he stays at Collingwood, that's been my view from day one'', on the eve of the Pies' preliminary final against Sydney, he did not indicate there was any rush to come to terms.

Collingwood's last offer to Cloke was a four-year contract estimated to be worth around $750,000 a season, with an option for a fifth season provided the player meets certain criteria. But the out-of-contract free agent has been steadfast in his demand for an unconditional five-year agreement, and his claim has not been hurt by Mick Malthouse's installation at Carlton. When he was announced as the Blues' new coach last week Malthouse was openly eager about luring the big fish from his former club, saying he would speak with Cloke ''at the appropriate time''. The declaration rankled Collingwood, though Carlton president Stephen Kernahan subsequently told his Magpie counterpart Eddie McGuire that his club was not trying to poach the forward.

How the hell can Carlton continue to fit these players under the salary cap???? It's beyond me!!
