Chaplin, who played 140 games for Port, said he would have pursued a trade even if Port matched the Tigers' offer. "I just had enough and needed a change," he said.

"It's been mentally draining but they (Port) are going to have a bright future ahead of them and I wish them all the success in the future.

"Port Adelaide gave me an opportunity nine years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

"I always thought I would be a one-club player but the opportunity to play at the home of footy at the MCG was too good an opportunity to pass up."
