what role did the whale actually play in that? did he ask for the trade or just told he was going? was he happy about it?
No role Al, except that he didn't want to go.  We got rid of Roberts, Teasdale and Jackson in our quest for John Pitura.  You hear talk of McMahon being the worst trade of all time.  Pfft.  Nothing comes close to this doozy.  And the net result was that we damaged the fabric of our club in a way that has never been repaired.

I think this is a good point. We need to keep all AFL senior standard players on our list. We don't have enough of em

Tigers need to keep Jake King - end of story

There are some players at Footy Clubs who's value cannot be judged solely on games played and the number of possession they get each week.

Every club has them

Jake King is one of those players IMHO

Most premiership teams in the last 30 years have had a minimum of one of these type of players.
No one would be prepared to offer what Jakey is worth to us. Untouchable :gotigers

GR's strength eventually became his weakness. Still you can credit a lot of the success in the late 60s and 70s in part directly to GR.

There is no doubt there have been times and opportunities in the last 30 years where we could have fixed the club. What happened last 70s may have started the rot but you can't blame it for the entire 30 years.

The future starts now. Remember the past but don't dwell and don't lose patience because of it.

As far as our current administration is concerned this recent bad form has only lasted a couple of years. We should view it that way too.

I was invited on a tour of the Westpac centre and to have a look at Collingwood training today and the assistant coach showing me around told me that they pump development into players until 24 and then back right off.

The reason being players don't get significantly better at AFL level after 24.

King is a good average player at 27, enough said.

Now I'm off for a dettol bath.

If a end of first round pick was offered by GWS I'd jump at it. Kingy's trade value is at its highest right now so this  year is when you trade him. Next year his trade value could be back to zero. After coming into this season with his head on the chopping block, he's had a much much improved first 2 months or so of the season but has tailed off again in the past month. He's only kicked one goal as a small forward in 4 games since round 10. He's hardly not expendable and won't be part of a premiership side. If GWS were interested and offering a decent compo pick it's an easy decision to trade him IMO.
