Chris Newman on 3AW @ 6.20pm
« on: February 10, 2010, 06:54:26 PM »
Newy was interviewed by Healy and Shaw on 3aw just before.......

* Hawthorn look up for it. We're ready to go as well.

* Dustin will most likely play. Team named tomorrow. Dustin has a good attitude, he's a great character and he is willing to learn.

* Healy named all the retirements/delistings from last year. Newy would pick Richo if he had one still playing this year. Lots of those players are quality so we've got our work cut out.

* Healy seemed surprised Cleve Hughes wasn't picked up by another club. Newy said we have to make sure everyone is consistent to keep their spot these days. Remind the young guys to make the most of it.

* Newy said he'll be playing in the back half for the majority of the year. May rarely push into the midfield but mainly play in the backline.

* We've got to rally behind Troy Taylor. It's a big change to come down here to Melbourne. Didn't say anything about the case.

* Shaw has us finishing bottom 4 this year because of our massive transfer of players. Newy said no doubt it's going to be a big challenge.

* On Free Agency, Newy said it gives more power to the players. Look on with interest. Not 100% sure yet it will be good for the game. Don't know enough about it at this stage.

* He's done a couple of snapshots with the Herald-Sun for the Chinese New Year of the Tiger.

Almost reached saturation point in the media these past couple of days...

Hopefully this game can put more of a positive focus on the future and not mourn the "loss" of 14 players & that dismal season.

I am only hoping he can make a better fist of leadership on field this year.
Using last year as evidence that won't be too difficult however should he fail then Lids needs to be annointed.

We would have to expect it now this close in, not that I like it, all teams are being brought forward in the media just check out the forums and online papers. Perhaps we are trying to drum up a bit more membership before the season proper.

Agree WAT.

Across the footy off season we really did knuckle down and not hear much at all but we have to expect due to media interest in the first weekend of footy and our sluggish membership renewals that we had to spike the media and get out there.

We aren't making crazy predictions like the old days, we are just talking about what is really happening and to completely reject the media would be crazy on our part.

Dead right, we are calling it like it is no talk about top 4 spots, just an honest approach.
