Essendon is likely to use the carrot of a senior leadership position for Brendon Goddard as it grows increasingly confident it has secured him from St Kilda. Essendon begins to believe its four-year deal of as much as $800,000 a season will not be matched by St Kilda.

Despite reports, Essendon has not made an official offer to Melbourne's Brent Moloney, who is assessing options as a free agent. But there is a clear interest in adding to the club's midfield, with the Dons one of "five or six" clubs considering Moloney.

Angus Monfries is yet to decide on his future after being offered a four-year $1.6 million deal at Port Adelaide. At this stage, he is likely to get only a two-year guaranteed term at Essendon, but it remains to be seen if other Victorian teams will enter the market for the 25-year-old.

Restricted free agent Angus Monfries appears certain to leave the Bombers after 150 games, probably to Port Adelaide, which has offered him a four-year contract. Essendon's best offer has been a two-year extension. Melbourne has also shown keen interest in him.

As of yesterday, Brendon Goddard's best offer to move is a four-year $3.4 million deal from Fremantle, which is far and above St Kilda's three-year contract worth about $650,000 a season. It is understood Essendon will also offer Goddard a four-year deal, and is prepared to be flexible about his remuneration should he leave the Saints but remain in Melbourne. In initial discussions about salary, the Bombers offered substantially more than St Kilda.

Essendon re-signed defender David Myers yesterday for two years after both parties settled a dispute over a new contract.

The Bombers have also offered a two-year extension to Leroy Jetta, and are confident the speedy midfielder will stay.

The club has offered one-year deals to the out-of-contract trio of David Hille, Scott Gumbleton and Alwyn Davey. Essendon is understood to be sympathetic to any deals involving ruckman Hille and key-forward Gumbleton.

The club is unlikely to have Brent Prismall, Ricky Dyson, Sam Lonergan and Henry Slattery on its primary list next season.

Gold Coast could lose a number of their developing players. Josh Toy, Hayden Jolly and Piers Flanagan - all part of the Suns' start-up as 17-year-olds, are expected to leave. Midfielder half-back Toy, who has played 13 games, including five this year, has attracted keen interest from Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs.

Brent Prismall - 2 knee recos I know but he was a good mid prior to those

Worth a look? Reckon he'd be cheap as a trade

BTW does anyone know if you can trade for a play to place on the rookie list? I know you can trade a rookie player out and they can be put on a senior list but can you trade in an ex-senior listed player to put on your rookie list?

And you don't see Bryne Edleston either so you both must be taking turns at Australia's version of the Tour De France....

Post #77 onwards. They're wondering how we have any salary cap space left.

Interestingly, one Bumber supporter says Tyson will be at the Tigers next season.
