From Robbo's WHAT I LIKE column

1. NICK VLASTUIN

Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Alex Rance and Dion Prestia were the high-profile performers, but Vlastuin’s efforts at the back typify what Richmond is all about. He had 19 disposals, kicked a huge goal and took a game-high 10 marks. What the numbers don’t describe is Vlastuin’s bravery and willingness to compete. He’s the kind of player who inspires teammates with his blue-collar work ethic, rather than out-and-out individual brilliance. Can’t think of a defender who runs back with the flight as much as Vlastuin does.

His goal in the third quarter was absolutely critical and stemmed the flow in favour of the cats.

might not the kudos, apart from jabba, but gee how good has he been?

a joy to watch how controlled he is in the back half. Makes houli actually stand taller too, but not by much.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Nick Vlastuin is Richmond's 'Glenn Archer': Robbo (SEN)
« Reply #801 on: September 11, 2017, 06:52:26 PM »
Is this unheralded defender Richmond's 'Glenn Archer'?

By SEN
11 September 2017

Herald Sun Chief Football Writer Mark Robinson has nominated an unheralded Tiger as having the same influence on his club as Glenn Archer.

The North Melbourne champion was celebrated for his courageous, relentless style of play, representing somewhat of a spiritual leader for the Roos. After Richmond secured their first finals victory since 2001, Robinson believes Nick Vlastuin embodies the mentality that Archer brought to the field.

“He [Vlastuin] is quickly becoming the Glenn Archer of Richmond,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“People will sit there and say, what a stupid thing to say. Archer was this, this and this, but what Nick Vlastuin does, his bravery is a stand out.”

Vlastuin amassed 19 disposals at 79 percent efficiency, 457 metres gained and 10 marks playing off the half back line in the 51-point win over Geelong in Friday night’s Qualifying Final.

“What the numbers don’t describe is Vlastuin’s bravery and willingness to compete,” Robinson wrote in Monday’s Herald Sun.

“He’s the kind of player who inspires teammates with his blue-collar work ethic, rather than out-and-out individual brilliance. Can’t think of a defender who runs back with the flight as much as Vlastuin does.”
