Has become my favourite player
But if he got us a first somehow , sign me up

Dan Rioli would absolutely get us a first and more. Carlton gave up pick 8 for saad. Let that be the starting point and go from there.

Btw I still don’t buy that this story has any legs.

You’re right
I thought he was far older than 27

IS DANIEL RIOLI THE “MISSING PIECE OF THE PUZZLE” FOR GOLD COAST?

By Lachlan Geleit
SEN
25 April 2024

Champion Data expert analyst Daniel Hoyne thinks that Richmond defender Daniel Rioli could be the missing link for the Gold Coast Suns.

Reports last week emerged from 10 News Queensland that Rioli caught up with his former coach Damien Hardwick during Richmond’s bye week while in the Sunshine State.

While no trade rumours have really emerged from there, that meeting caused Hoyne to ponder what Rioli would look like playing for his former coach again but in Suns colours.

Given that the Suns are poor offensively in 2024, Hoyne thinks that Rioli could be a perfect addition for the improving club.

“I was interested to hear about discussions around Daniel Rioli and whatever's going on up there,” Hoyne said on SEN Sportsday.

“But it got me thinking that a player like him is absolutely ideal for where Gold Coast are heading and probably one of the final pieces of their team at the moment.

“In terms of what they're doing without the footy, they’re second best behind Geelong this year which is a huge tick for Hardwick. They have the fifth-worst offensive profile in the competition, mainly because there's no team that struggles to move the ball more than what Gold Coast are doing at the moment.

“So far this season, they have rotated eight half-back flankers through their team, across six weeks.”

Agreed Chucky. Will get a top 10 for Dan and Baker.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

DIMMA READIES FOR FIRST TIGER POACHING

Gold Coast’s interest in Richmond star Daniel Rioli is real, according to the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark, and the Tigers could land a healthy sum in return.

The 27-year-old is contracted until the end of 2027 and there were conflicting reports over whether he spoke with the Suns and his former coach Damien Hardwick during a recent trip to southeast Queensland.

But Clark told Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle “where there’s smoke, there’s a little bit of fire”.

“And I think the Gold Coast Suns are just eyeing Daniel Rioli at the halfway point of the season, and will be very interested in his services,” Clark said.

The Suns would need to give something up to land Rioli, given he is contracted, but they have a healthy suite of 2024 draft selections including two first-rounders - their own, and the Western Bulldogs’ pick.

You need to see the bigger picture. Take the 2 1st rounders and run. Dan won’t be in our next Premiership team

Firmly against trading him. Important member of the club who adds greatly to the culture of the club.

As one who thinks we are yet to bottom out i think if we got two first rounders for him one early one late it  would be  tempting.
Rioli is already 27 and for me we won't be looking at challenging for even top 4 for another 5 seasons.
We have to first get a whole bunch of early picks get em right and then get em to probably 50 80 games. it doesn't happen over night.

Trouble is what good players we have in the 24 - 28 age bracket now (there arent a lot0 are needed to nurture young talent thru the next 5 or so years so in that he is needed.
In 5 years time we dont want just a bunch of 18 to 24 year olds and the rest are battlers. We need to maintain some experience and look after the culture.

Given Riewoldt and Edwards were integral pieces to our flags, our premiership era started way back in 2006. Rance Cotchin 07, dusty in 09

From being bottom to a flag took 12 years.
Get things wrong and it stretches out somewhat.

Tend to agree, trouble is I have little faith in our current list management team.
Trade Rioli and Baker, roll forward 2 years who would be any good and still at RFC??
YZE (?), Balta, Bolton then tbh I am stumped.

Another concern is Balta and Bolton are what 24 and 25, clubs will come after them with big offers in the not too distant future.
