Angus Graham - 2010 expectations?
« on: February 09, 2010, 07:52:27 PM »
Graham played 16 games in 2009 to take his total to 18 all up since being picked up in the 2005 rookie draft.

What are your expectations for Gus this year and what would be a good year from him?

Geez I am too scared to say after my QUESTIONS on Vickers... ::). All I can say about this bloke is IMO he really needs to take over the number one mantle from Simmonds this year. Please don't tell me we are still developing Graham, time to stand up mate, its not like you don't have the size.

No excuses this year, barring injuries he must come on and be our No.1 ruck.

Dare i say it?

I don't actually have any expectations for young Gus

Why? Because I thought his 2nd half of 2009 was very disappointing and I am just not sure what we are going to get.

Having siad that what I want to see is Gus not drop his head when things don't go his way. His body language when he is off his game is terrible (actually he could have taught Richo a thing or 2  ;D)

Maybe i am still in shock after listening to Dimma say he'd love a few more Chris Newmans at tigerland but I have to say WAT I agree with you again. Think you've summed it up well.

He has been in the system what is it 4 years now... his time needs to be now.

Frasers Restaurant Kings Park would be a better option .

As for Angus, will easily win the award for best RFC player at Coburg in 2010

although not my choice  i think if fit he will play most games.
my logic in this is we have 4 ruckmen. simmonds, graham, vickery, browne, perhaps polak if needed.

two of those 4 are not ready that is vickery and browne.  if griffiths and astbury get say 11 games each vickery wont play forward or as a forward.
unless he is phsically ready he wont be asked to ruck to often either. i think browne and vickery will spend most of the yr at coburg.
this will leave simmonds and graham  for the seniors.  i reckon as long as both are competetive (sorry spelling) both will burden the ruck duties this yr. do i expect much from graham well the answer is no i dont believe him to be up to standard or capable of achieving the required standard i really hope he proves me wrong.

some people i know say vickerys development would be better if it were at afl level and i would normally agree but he just does not have the size and if played in the ruck atm is an accident waiting to happen.
last yr he clearly got  hurt a few times  to his credit he grinned and bared it but. keep getting hurt and sooner or later he will become gun shy or seriously injured.

patience is the key with all our young players by all means give them games when possible but we need to manage them properly.
finally i would say in some ways browne is more ready than vickery at 205cm and 105kg he has the frame and bulk to go. but hes on a massive learning curve and very raw and a different type of ruckman he has much to learn and needs time at a lower level.
i hope both boys get some games this yr and for sure with ruckmen injury will mean they will likely get a few games.
