Brendon Lade on SEN - 28/02/16

Brendon Lade was just on SEN:

* Rohan Connolly asked what do you guys need to do to make top 4 as you're not that far away?
Lade said our midfield is good and our (team) defence is strong (3rd best in 2015). We need to this year improve our offence and find more goals & goalkickers. Yesterday was pleasing from that point of view. We'll see Edwards have more time up forward this year, then there's Lennon who kicked 3, Corey Ellis, who played better last week, and Rioli who did some nice things yesterday.

* Rohan asked if Jack's game yesterday was vindication for the work the club has put into him and his more rounded role, which has often been criticised by the media?
Lade reiterated that we needed to find more guys who will kick 50 goals a season as Jack has done over the past 6 seasons. It was pleasing to see to Edwards kick 4, Lennon 3 and Menadue 2. Jack was fantastic yesterday with 10 scoring involvements and 5 goal assists yesterday on top of his two goals.

* Rohan also asked if as coaches is it harder to improve a side that is not far away across the board than one that has one or two glaring deficiences?
Lade replied getting improvement across the board is something we've tried to do over the last couple of years. Our depth has improved from the time he arrived at the Club thanks to our recruiting staff who have done a great job building up our list despite the compromises due to GWS and Gold Coast. We're still a young developing side around the edges and we see the likes of Menadue, Lennon, Corey Ellis, Rioli, etc as adding to that depth.

* Chol is playing a role for us at the moment and if he keeps doing that then he could be a chance to play round 1 :O. He has all the athletic attributes you want to see in a footballer.

* Two preseason games would be enough to play the squad but in saying that the Freo game enabled us the opportunity for our youngsters to play against and learn from a full-strength Fremantle side.

* We have a club connection with the Cardinia Shire and we see it as a growth area for our supporter base and members. We train a couple of times at the Holm Park ground as well is excellent. It was great to get back to suburban grounds and grassroots footy which he enjoyed as a player and see so much support from the local people of the area.
