"We will no longer accept mediocrity" - March
« on: September 20, 2007, 03:08:24 AM »
Last night at the B&F, Gary March apparently read the riot act to the playing group according to Caro....

-----------------------
... in a year of heartburn that prompted March to caution players that a repeat of the wooden spoon season next year would not be tolerated.

"Sure there have been excuses — serious injuries to key players, an extremely difficult draw, average training facilities — but in reality that's all they are — excuses. And for far too long now, this club has made excuses," March told the team and fans.

"This year we once again escaped serious scrutiny as a playing group due to four AFL coaches being sacked and far too much emphasis on our coach and past recruiting.

"Next year is a pivotal year for the club, being our centenary in the VFL/AFL.

"Another year like this would not only be embarrassing but devastating for our supporters who have been unbelievably supportive over an extremely lean past 20 years.

"Simply put: it is time for this playing group to deliver … The club has now put in place the resources to ensure we are on a level playing field and unlike this year the media — and for that matter our supporters — will not allow sub-standard performances to go unscutinised.

"You owe to our supporters, the club and most importantly each other to give yourselves every opportunity to be successful next year — the 100th year of the Richmond Football Club in the VFL/AFL.

"It's time for us to make tough decisions. We will no longer accept mediocrity."

Let's hope it sinks into some of them and they do some extra work in their break.

I'd imagine Foley is already starting for next year.  :lol

Let's hope so tigersalive.

I appreciate March's honest words and glad he said them but until the team puts them into action then the club will still be seen as mediocre.

And if any of my friends who I watch training with are reading this, I'm taking some minor credit for that last line by March  :shh ;D.

"We will no longer accept mediocrity"

Hmmm... like we have before now?

Nice try Gary but we hear this spin every year, let the actions do the talking.

When it comes to mediocrity, Gary March should have a good look at his own board. Plenty of number-crunchers and legal people, but we need some serious heavy-hitters on the media and sports management side of things. Sorry Mitho, you've gotta go. Some more football people would be good too. Miller should end the charade and stand down from the board as well.

Sheeds is the obvious one when available, but we need someone from inside one of the free-to-air networks who knows how things work and has some pull there.

Anyone got any suggestions?
