RICHMOND players and coaches have welcomed the chance to have a weekend off from the grind of the AFL.
While it was business as usual for the first part of the week, on Thursday the team spent time going back over some things from the pre-season, resetting their focus for the remaining eight weeks of the home-and-away rounds.
"It's been work as usual – coming off the Carlton game, we've had to do the review, which happened on Monday and Tuesday," assistant coach Brian Royal told richmondfc.com.au.
"Wednesday was a day where we needed to get certain aspects of training into the players – football training and some conditioning training.
"We want to give them Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, so they need to have done some work going into a three-day break.
"On Thursday we've got a team-building/leadership/team-bonding activity."
Royal refused to be drawn on the specifics of Thursday's activity.
"We've got a full day of that – I can't say too much about it, but a lot of it's based on stuff we did over the pre-season.
"We're revisiting some things that we did in the pre-season."
Royal said the break was appreciated by all as the Tigers readied themselves for an assault on the top eight.
"Oh look, I think so. When you've got a young list at the bottom end – you're dealing with kids like Trent Cotchin, who's just turned 18 and Jack Riewoldt who's not even 20 yet, and even the other guys who are 21 or 22, they get tired.
"It's a long season, so the break's good for everyone.
"Even from a coaching point-of-view, you re-energise.
"It gives you a mental break."
