Tim Taranto to Richmond: A

The Tigers sold the farm to get him and in the long run, giving up picks 12 and 19 might not look great, but they couldn’t have asked for much more from Tim Taranto in year one. He may be leading the Brownlow at the halfway point. Should win the Jack Dyer Medal.

Stiff on missing AA selection but was quieter in the last few games.

Think he should have been the squad of 40 but wasn't consistent enough to make the final team anyway. Ditto Balta

CONTROVERSIAL ALL-AUS SQUAD SELECTION CALLS REVEALED

Taranto’s omission especially is set to fire up Tigers fans.

Luke Hodge and Andy Maher were two who suggested Taranto should have been given a run.

“The Tim Taranto one… halfway through the year I think (All-Australian selector Kane Cornes) said he wanted to see him kick more goals… he averaged almost one a game, had 140 odd clearances, averaged 29 touches a game, I thought it was a pretty consistent year,” Hodge said on SEN's Sportsday.

“He did so much well in a team that did struggle.”

Maher, speaking on SEN’s The Run Home, added: “Tim Taranto is going to be the hot potato here.

“If I had to take one out to put one in… I’m taking Stephen Coniglio out to put Taranto in.”

Coniglio, Patrick Cripps, Noah Anderson and Jai Newcombe were all selected above the first-year Richmond midfielder.

Taranto has averaged 28.8 disposals, 6.2 clearances, 6.7 tackles and 3.5 inside 50s to quickly become Richmond’s most important midfielder, as Dustin Martin spends more time in the forward line.

Should have at the very least made the squad. Tapered off post bye but will likely come top5-10 in the Brownlow and not even be in a fake squad of 44  :huh

I don’t even know why they name a squad. Just pick a 22/23 and be done with it.

Actually don’t even read it anymore after they selected Danger over Dusty in 2020
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Had a great year in general but started and finished modestly.

His last month or so was very quiet imo. Wonder if he was copping more attention or just tired.

Not being rated in the top 150 players makes Taranto a long shot to get AA  ;D
