Had a chuckle at the reporter saying the kids had a chance "to learn silky skills from the professionals"  :shh

Anyway good on the Tiges for doing the clinic (the kids were from 200 primary schools) and another positive off-field news report on the club  :thumbsup.

Punt Road visit a roaring success

THE Richmond Tigers hosted Spring Valley Primary School students in an invitation gala day last week at Punt Road Oval, Richmond.

Fifty grade five and six students enjoyed the day organised by the government program Active After-School Communities (AASC), a free after-school program giving children professionally run sport sessions.

Spring Valley Primary School physical education teacher Matthew Ware said the school had been involved with the AASC program for about a year.

“The program promotes being healthy and active, the kids play a range of different sports from soccer to dance and eat fruit for an afternoon snack,” Mr Ware said.

He said the students enjoyed meeting Richmond football players Shane Tuck, Luke McGuane, Joel Bowden and Will Thursfield.

“The kids had a fantastic day, they received show bags and posters, and if we’re invited again, we’ll certainly be there next year,” Mr Ware said.

He said the students were chosen on a first-in, first-served basis as places were limited for the AASC program.

“Unfortunately a number miss out initially, but by the end of the year all students would have taken part in the program,” he said.

Mr Ware said the response from fellow teachers, parents and students had been extremely positive.

“The parents have jumped on board and think it’s a fantastic initiative,” he said.

“The students love it.”

Spring Valley Primary School wellbeing officer Elissa Sewell said the kids would remember the gala day for the rest of their lives.
