Ok so we made a pitch for him last year and he is leaving again....... apparently. So if we could get him cheap (did you get that Daniel..... no trading draft picks) would we?
Just putting it out there..

i wouldn't trade for this hack for a pack of BBQ shapes and even that is paying too much for him
he is a hack and yes ANOTHER CLUB'S REJECT.

Once again you are missing the mark WAT.
This type of kid is not what the club needs with the direction it is going. Kid has family issues and a lack of discipline. Kid took forever to go back to Brisbane after he was on leave. Club was going to sanction him when it occurred. We don't need that in our culture. Just cause someone is available does not mean they fit our need as a footy club.
Draft them from kids and don't worry about other teams trash. Keep our draft picks. Just cause we are giving up Raines does not mean we should take something off the hands of Brisbane. :banghead
Give it a rest WAT. The club is going to use the draft this year. How many times do we have to say this. The club will have expreience in a few years. Not next year face it. No more rejects from other clubs.

Is this a forum TB or is this TB's expert guide to the AFL because he is the all mighty. Get the eff off my back when I put it out there regarding picking up players, read my post again..... PUTTING IT OUT THERE for people to comment on. If we pick up one of the players I have PUT OUT THERE you will be the first one I come looking for. When you say "How many times do we have to say this" are you talking about you or do you actually run the club or are you speaking for eveyone on this forum?????????
I will say it again, WHERE do I or have I said swap draft picks???????? READ my posts man!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead :banghead :banghead

Wasn't one of his main issues homesickness? If he was homesick in Brisbane then being in Melbourne in midwinter will hardly help.
WAT you may need to get the chair and whip out ;D

Tell me about it MT.. :thumbsup. He is a very good player though but if he does get homesick, no point. He does have a few issues too, but who doesn't!!

The issue I have with Hooper is he is a 1 in 6 type of player. He'll have a day out one game where he kicks 3 goals from a FP but then go missing for the next 6 weeks. Skill-wise he's talented but the consistency and mental toughness isn't there. Also at the rebuilding stage we are in we still need to put together the bread and butter components of our list and team whereas Hooper is more a finisher to team's hardwork. If he's inconsistent at the feet of Brown and Bradshaw then gawd help him in our forward line.

So according to you all have some issues. So does Fevola. So using your "theory" he would also be a right fit for us. He only has a few issues. :rollin

Nope, wasn't homesickness - he is from up here. His problems are family and attitude related and we don't want him at our club at any price - trade or draft pick.
-
could do alot worse than push him thru to PSD and pick him up...can play a bit, was selected in their finals side albeit he didnt fire

Yep, he can play a fair bit Mr BJ but we don't want or need his attitude at our club. Doesn't have the strength of purpose to succeed at AFL level and with our 'new broom' policy he would be a significant step backwards.

Do we put our draft picks through a psychological test? Attitude is important, look at Peter Bell and Tony Liberatore. Small guys big hearts and both great players. If smokey is right and he does have an attitude problem then thats not going to help cultural change.

Rhan a quick solution for Tigers
Stephen Rielly | November 05, 2009
RICHMOND's ambition to add speed to its attack has led it to Rhan Hooper's door, with the former Brisbane small forward to begin pre-season training with the Tigers next week.
Hooper is due in Melbourne today, having spent the week driving south from Queensland where his time with the Lions was officially brought to an end last week in circumstances that appear destined for arbitration or even court.
The 21-year-old was contracted to Brisbane for about $330,000 in 2010 but there is now dispute over how much, if anything, he is entitled to after being delisted last Friday. His manager, Peter Whitehead, said yesterday the matter would be first taken to the AFL's grievance tribunal but stressed Hooper's priority is to start again a once-promising career that petered out this year.
Hooper kicked four goals in round one and two more the following week but played only seven more games for the season, for a return of 13.6, although it appeared to be a significant statement about his ability that he returned to the Lions side for the club's two finals after an eight-week absence.
"No one knows with any certainty at this stage (whether he will receive a second chance) but there has been interest from four clubs, Richmond among them, which is encouraging," Whitehead said. "There's a bit of water to flow under the bridge yet on his departure from Brisbane. But we're not dwelling on that.
"The priority is for Rhan to get a new home and re-establish himself as an AFL player. We're going down a certain path in relation to that (his exit) but a new football home is the more pressing issue.
"At least by being down there in Melbourne, other clubs can speak with him and learn more about him."
Hooper played 48 games in four seasons with the Lions, for 49 goals, and if he was to finish up at Punt Rd it would be an ironic outcome. It was a lucrative offer from Terry Wallace's Richmond two years ago that drew the Lions into countering with a $1 million, three-year contract they have now terminated without compensation for the loss of his talent.
The Lions could not move Hooper on in trade week, largely because of his hefty salary, the balance of which they may yet have to pay. The Tigers, or any other club, can and probably will pick Hooper up on the AFL's basic wage.
One of the Tigers' many concerns throughout the season has been a lack of ground-level speed in the forward line, something that did not help the side kick goals or bring pressure to the opposition as it was working its way out of defence.
Rookie Robin Nahas emerged, but by season-end Jake King was sent forward to help plug the leak on a temporary basis. Hooper, despite ankle and hamstring injuries this year and questions about his application, has speed, a mind for tackling and elite qualities that are now available for little more than a late draft pick and a basic contract.
Richmond football operations manager, Craig Cameron, said yesterday that the Tigers discussed Hooper when the club was working through the deal that sent Andrew Raines to Brisbane.
"We've invited Rhan down for pre-season but at this point it's to see more of him and if it (the trial) is to go anywhere he has to be comfortable with us. So, we'll see what happens," Cameron said.
"He's young, he's got talent and he's a quick, small forward and we'd like more of that type. But we can't overlook the fact he's been delisted under contract, either."
Meanwhile, former North Melbourne defender Jesse Smith started training with Hawthorn yesterday in a bid to revive his troubled career. Smith walked out on the Roos last month, frustrated with a history of ankle and hamstring injuries that restricted him to 27 games in his five seasons at Arden Street.
Smith's father, Ross, once a fine North player, is now an assistant coach at Hawthorn, which also has former Richmond ruckman Dean Putt training at Waverley Park in the hope of a second chance.

For a late ND Pick or a pick in the PSD he is ok. I think that in the past we tried to get him as well.

He isn't recruited yet. He's training with us.
And don't go acting all smug because you got 1 right, as if you have a 100% hit rate. I could make a thread about every delisted player and possibly get 1 or 2 right as well.
Unbelievable.

If there was to be Hooper on the list next year, let this be him

I' m with you on this WAT! Even though i believe recruiting Hooper would be a mistake, i still believe that we would be negligent in not expolring the option! My position is the same as the cousins scenario,if he is the best player available take him instead of a speculative last rounder!

Unbelievable alright, go back and read the start of my thread and every other thread regarding delisted players from other clubs. I have every right to be smug mate as the RFC are doing what they should be "HAVING A LOOK"!!!!! Read my post again. :wallywink

Summed it up perfectly WP. :thumbsup

Just because he is training with us does not mean anything. I remember Rupert Betheras training with Richmond one year and we picked up somebody else in the PSD who was not training with us.
The PSD pops up many surprises. Remember last year the Friday before the PSD is when we first thought of the idea of putting Polak on a long term injury list to go for Cuz which was rejected by Collingwood and others. Still a long way to go boys.....
Just for the sake of this conversation I with all my physical deficiencies when it comes to playing elite AFL could start training at Punt Rd tomorrow and by Monday I;ll be the greatest ever 34 year old recruit in AFL history. Don't believe everything you read in the papers............. ;D
-
No harm at all......got a feeling though........ 21 years old........ :thumbsup :thumbsup

Doesn't mean anything, thats right TB and I dont read everything I read in the Paper, but isn't great to see the RFC have the brains to at least look at a player that could benifit us. More experience around goal......... love it..... :clapping

I seem to recall Hooper playing more off the backline than a forward. :shh

What makes you think we haven't looked at many options in the past and aren't looking at them now? Just because they don't train with us doesn't mean we aren't looking at them. And just because we look at them doesn't mean we will get the end decision right. Don't muddy the waters between looking at mature options and taking them WAT - many of us on here agree with you that we should look at them, but some of us also believe that unless something 'special' presents we will be better of (this season) going with kids.

Good, good post smokey in some regards!! Don't think I am muddying the waters as he will still cost us a pick and history does show that many players training with clubs do actually get picked up by that club, but like I said good post.. 8)

Talking specifically about Hooper now, the only knock on him is his attitude to his career. He had numerous chances at Brisbane - Voss especially, went out of his way in his own time to work with him on that and judging by his recall for the finals this season it highlights how much 'potential' he saw in him. But.............the question..............and it's a huge one, is "what attitude will he bring to the club?". The pros - he is quick, he is skillful, he is potent around goals, he is young. All attributes we are crying out for in a footballer. If the club's tests and investigations come up with him being a risk worth taking then we will have a winner. If not, we will have the usual suspects on here drowning out most other sensible discussion with their incessant whining on Hooper, Jackson and the club in general. From what I know about Hooper, being a local up here he was too prone to wanting the good life with his mates and family so maybe a move 1500km away might be the making of him, but maybe he is just that type of person and nothing will change him - and God knows AFL history is littered with these types. AS WP said, I would much rather see MacDonald in our jumper - he is still young enough and ticks ALL the boxes - and he will be a serious upgrade on MacMahon in 12 months time but if the club does it's homework and decides on Hooper then so be it. You don't want to die wondering. And if we took them both then I still have no problem - again, as long as the club has done it's homework.

No arguments here Smokey, this has been my tghinking all along with most uncontracted players, with the exception of a few that are too old and with the injury prone players. I will totally back what the club does, I wonder how many more will though??

How is this bloke still getting a run - and I aint talking about Hopper :banghead
Geez RFC, need to have a complete change of culture and getting a homesick inconsistent poster just is not an answer to the long term future of the site.

You are the expert pal, your posts are very predictable and boring, read my post again, if you can comprehend them. I am saying that uncontracted players that are not too old or injured, such as a Hooper or Smith or Thorp or who the hell ever in that category should be welcome at the club to train at the club leading into the draft...IMO. The RFC obviously thinks the same or Hooper would not be there.
In you infinate wisdom could you please explain what is wrong with that, as a number of posters feel the same, so have the guts to have a go at all of us!!!! Now go back to sleep...... or your bottle :sleep :sleep

Well I have to say it, I am really warming to the idea of Hooper joining us, IF, IF, IF his attitude is right and the age he is this guy could really turn into the dangerous small/med forward we have all craved for years like Didak, Betts, Milne and all those other little pains in the butt that kick bags against us all the time.
Yes we have Nahas but Hooper is more of a goal kicker IMO, Nahas is more versatile but Hooper has a lot to offer on field IMO.

Yes MT, just by a stroke of luck going our way for a change, we are much better placed for inside knowledge on 2 of the recycleds most suited to us - Thorp and Hooper - by virtue of our new coaches.

Richmond reportedly met with Thorp, yet he is training with Melbourne. Can anything be read into that? The response from Hardwick and co may not have been too encouraging to Thorp.

Hawks could swoop and draft disgruntled Hooper
Jake Niall | November 19, 2009
HAWTHORN is considering taking the punt on former Brisbane Lion Rhan Hooper, with the 2008 premier contemplating selecting him in next week's national draft.
Hooper has been training with Richmond, which is weighing up whether it wants to pick the small forward, who remains in dispute with the Lions over his estimated $300,000-plus contract he was due to be paid in 2010 - the terms of which Brisbane argues the player breached.
Hooper's dispute with the Lions has been referred to the AFL's grievance tribunal, but is not expected to be settled before next Thursday's national draft.
The Tigers have given Hooper no guarantees, while the Hawks have spoken to him recently.

Let them have him.
-
This bloke reportedly had attitude/commitment problems. He then turns up for pre season training with a club in the hope they will draft him, fat as a fool. Now that shows just how much commitment he has to resurrecting his AFL career.
I'd prefer a draft pick to be wasted on an injury prone big head like Thorp than this bloke. At least Thorp is a potential match winner IF you can get everything right with him.

Apparently Greg Denham on SEN said that Hooper missed training yesterday because 'he forgot'.

Apparently Greg Denham on SEN said that Hooper missed training yesterday because 'he forgot'.
You're kidding me?!?
Yeah well for that memory lapse i hope we "forget" to read his name out in any of the drafts. A professional sportsman who is trying to earn a spot at club cannot afford to forget surely.
-
Apparently Greg Denham on SEN said that Hooper missed training yesterday because 'he forgot'.
Well, hopefully richmond 'forget' to call his name out come draft day. Unbelievable!!

and to think some on here thought he would be a descent pick up.

To quote Allan Harper "I'm soooo screwed".
That is unforgivable...shortest comeback in history...

Well if that is the case how does this sound Ryan; Went for a crap today and forgot to wipe my ass....you clown. You just don't forget!!!!!
-
Apparently Greg Denham on SEN said that Hooper missed training yesterday because 'he forgot'.
Did Denham mean Wednesday's training as yesterday (Thurs) is the players' day off?
I was told by a friend Hooper hasn't been seen since last week's training ???.

2007 - Hooper’s pre-season was thrown into turmoil during January when he ceased training with the Club citing a lack of personal motivation to continue his AFL career.

6/12/2008 - THE BRISBANE Lions have suspended forward Rhan Hooper from the club for 28 days for "repeated breaches of his playing contract during the pre-season".
The Lions said in a statement on Saturday that Hooper had failed to attend December's scheduled training sessions.
"We are working with Rhan on this ongoing issue in the best interests of the player and the Lions," the statement said.

Bulldogs sniffing around ex-Lion Rhan Hooper

THE Western Bulldogs have emerged as a possible suitor for former Brisbane Lions speedster Rhan Hooper.
Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade met Hooper this week after it became apparent the 21-year-old could be a steal in Thursday's national draft, given he hasn't put a price on his head.
Hooper, who has also been courted by Hawthorn and Richmond, was surprisingly delisted by the Lions despite being under contract for $330,000 next year.
While he is in dispute with Brisbane over a payout, Hooper is expected to be compensated significantly, which means he has no problem in playing for the minimum wage next season at a new club.
The Bulldogs have little room to move in their salary cap, but the chance to grab a proven talent such as Hooper for virtually nothing appeals, given their need for a goalsneak to work alongside Barry Hall in a new forward set-up.
Hooper has been training with Richmond for the past couple of weeks, although it's believed he failed to show for a session on Thursday.
His four-season, 48-game career at the Lions was littered with discipline problems. It was hoped a new environment would trigger a better commitment.
Richmond made a play for Hooper two years ago, which led to Brisbane countering with a $1 million, three-year contract that raised eyebrows.
Despite kicking four goals in Round 1 this year and two the next week, Hooper played only seven more games for the season. However, he did return after an eight-week absence to play in the Lions' two finals.

Again if it is true then Hardwick and co need to get rid of him this minute, no delays, no second chances, not a chance..... bloody fool Hooper!!
Maybe Hooper was staying in an apartment across the hall from Cosmo Kramer when the industrial heat pump Kramer was using for his living room hot-tub blew the electricity fuse to the whole building making the water in the tub go cold that Kramer was sleeping in causing Kramer's fail-safe body clock to fail when he developed hypothermia and caused Hooper's electric alarm clock to not go off. He should have stayed and got a good night's sleep at Elaine's place as planned :wallywink.

Yeah I gathered it was Seinfield... :lol

Or maybe he got lost in the multi-level car park after going shopping for an air-conditioner. ;D
He needs parents like George's to keep him in line..."If I am not in front of my building at 6:15 when my parents get there, they are going to put me on an aggravation installment plan that will compound with interest for decades." :lol
I love that quote!!

Maybe Hooper didn't have his nap unlike George.... "I love a good nap. Sometimes it's the only thing getting me out of bed in the morning."

Hawthorn's focus on making a ruckman a priority has meant it has moderated its interest in fast but enigmatic Brisbane Lions forward Rhan Hooper. The Bulldogs reportedly have some interest in Hooper but that is understood to be tepid at best. Hooper was delisted by Brisbane with a year to go on a contract worth at least $320,000 next year. That contract dispute will go to the grievance tribunal.
The Hawks are more likely to pursue Hooper if he is still available as a mature-aged rookie. Richmond retains modest interest in Hooper. He has been training at Punt Road but suffered an early soft tissue injury and has been in the rehab group throughout.

Told ya we had the wrong Ex Lion Player training with us ;D ;D ;D
That Hooper missed a training session should be enough to send him on his way .... but to hear he has already suffereda soft tissue injury is a concern
On your bike Rhan - C'YA

It is clear Hooper does not have the right attitude. See ya later Rhan.

Did you two read the post by OE, he is in the rehab group, or did he still miss the training day??

He missed a session, didn't turn up either on time or at all
Enough said I would have a thought...

Yep whether he was in rehab or not if he didn't turn up because he "forgot" then he's done his dash you would think.

His car keeps runnning out of petrol.
-
Ah ok, didn't realise he he was not even there for the rehab group or training.

THANK YOU HAWTHORN!
;D

THANK YOU HAWTHORN!
;D
If Hooper showed the necessary commitment to AFL footy he could become a good footballer but so far he's just another Clayton Collard type - plenty of natural ability but no discipline and desire.

Hawthorn can have him!

he looks like a Mark Williams with a better vertical jump and clean hands.
just need to build up!
