Geelong. Great, just what we need after Hawthorn! :o
If North can beat Geelong I'm not sure we want to play them either
-
North would be a good test. A team that will play alot of youngsters and finished with a similar amount of wins last year as we did. Will be good to see Martin line up against Ziebel and how our mids stack up against theirs. Plus two coaches who will be coaching in just their second games whose young sides might be coming of bad first up losses.
Geelong although have promised to play kids will still have quite a few premiership players taking the field and it could really kill any confidence that wasn't eroded by last nights lopsided result.
-
From today's Australian...
Taylor, a fourth-round selection, and 51 overall in November's national draft, could play his first game for Richmond against either Geelong or North Melbourne tomorrow week. Also likely to have their first serious hit-outs in that trial game are Ben Cousins, Daniel Jackson, Luke McGuane and ruckman Troy Simmonds.

Hawthorn one week Geelong the next :help
Just our luck if North upset Geelong :-\ although the Pussies have woken up and kicked the last 5 goals. North were in front by 46 points at one stage in the 3rd quarter but it's now back to just 13.
-
i was just about to say that MT!! 8 points down now with quarter to go... you would think that the cats would run over the top of them now.
-
North hung on then kicked a couple to win by 14 points.
So we're playing Geelong in Yea next weekend.
-
Oh goody :help
Round 1 will seem like a piece of cake and a relief after all these practice matches against the gun sides ;D
-
something tells me that the cats will be resting the likes of ablett, Ling and Bartel seeing they all played today...will be keen how strong we are and if we are competitive, we should be

Picked up tickets last week

Yeah im going for a giggle. Got some tickets yesterday actually.
Oh and by the way WP thanks for your directions on finding them at Etihad. Made it really easy, when it could have been an annoying process. Thankfully i remembered the ATM on the way in.
Going with the girlfriends family who are all Geelong supporters... Not sure why i put myself through these situations actually.

Yea Recreation Reserve is the oval at the top of the pic. Go east from Melbourne on the Maroondah Hwy, turn off onto the Melba Hwy and follow it all the way to Yea.

Balme said the Cats were yet to settle on a final line-up for the Tigers clash.
"We haven't sat down to work that out. We want to sit down and work out who needs to play and who doesn't but we'd like to play a few more kids," he said.
"There's not the element of winning and losing games to worry about, but having said that, we'll be trying our hardest with whatever side we put out and will look to provide some entertainment for those who come out to watch."

Kel speaking at the press conference for the Yea game......
Richmond defender Kel Moore said the Tigers had a lot of "fine-tuning" to do before the start of the season proper under new coach Damien Hardwick.
"I think we know that we've got a long way to go. We put things in place and obviously some worked and some didn't," Moore said.
"We're just going to keep at it and stick at it and it might take another month or six months or 12 months and we'll get there.
"We're in a stage where we've had a big transformation and lost a lot of big-name players and we've had a lot of good young guys come in so we are rebuilding and Damien and his staff have put everything in place."

Footy set for fire zone as Tigers, Cats pay tribute

Thu 25 February, 2010
THE GAME will travel to the Victorian High Country this weekend with Richmond to take on Geelong in the bushfire affected town of Yea on Saturday afternoon.
The north-eastern town, which is situated in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, was one of many Victorian towns touched by last year's Black Saturday tragedy.
The NAB Challenge match has been scheduled at the Yea Football Ground, which has been resurfaced and given new goal posts, to help recognise the efforts of the town and others that continue to battle through the effects of last February's devastation.
Richmond defender Kelvin Moore, who is from Healesville, said he was looking forward to a trip back to the country.
"I'm from out that way so it will be good to go home. I might go back home tomorrow and then head out to Yea," he said.
"I'm looking forward to it. It's a good surface out there and they've put a lot of effort and time into it so all the guys are looking forward to going out there."
Local supporters Declan Harrison (Yea) and Jack Methven (Healesville) will run onto the field with the teams as club mascots.
Any profits from the match will be injected right back into the local community's football league.
The estimated crowd for Saturday's game is 5000 but there are still tickets available from Pollards Pharmacy in Yea, SportsPower and Toys in Alexandra, Neil Beer Holden Dealership in Seymour, the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League and AFL Membership Department at Docklands.
The match will commence at 4pm.
Tickets are:
$15 Adults
$5 Concession (under 17, no junior tickets)
$30 Family (Two adults, up to four juniors)
Exclusive to AFL BigPond Network

Yea to put on a show … country style
CAMERON NOAKES

The Yea football ground where many people took refuge after the Black Saturday fires. Today the ground will host an AFL match between Richmond and Geelong. Photo: Justin McManus
WHEN the micro-managed, uber-professional environment of the AFL rolls into a tiny, laid back, country town such as Yea there are inevitably some problems as worlds collide; for example, a dispute has already broken out between the local workers at the Red Cross and Richmond over the price of a plate of spaghetti … with the Red Cross winning that battle.
Do not mess with the "Red Cross ladies", said Rick Wall, who is project managing today's NAB Challenge match between Richmond and Geelong.
"Richmond quoted a certain price for the spaghetti bolognaise and the Red Cross ladies said, 'No, we don't think so' … the Red Cross ladies drive a hard bargain", he explained.
Just a tick over a year ago people flocked to the Yea football ground for refuge as the devastating Black Saturday fires licked around the edges of the town, but today the people are flocking there again to watch what the ground was designed for - football.
The tents that were once pitched on the ground's immaculate playing surface, temporary homes for many fire victims, have long gone, and today new tents have arrived, in the form of three large marquees, in which 1300 sausages, 700 hamburgers and 650 hot dogs will be sizzled and sold.
"And I'm not sure how many kegs there are but they are in the pavilion now and there is a stack of them," Wall said.
While the entire community is seemingly donating its time (from the people in the local chemist, Pollard's Pharmacy - who are ''rushed off their feet" selling tickets - to the CFA), Wall's job is to satisfy the demands of the football clubs. And when The Age called on Friday he was thinking about ice.
Each club requires about 300-400 kilograms of ice but Wall thought there was only 400 kilograms in the entire township.
"If worst comes to worst we might have to make a run to Alexandra in the morning," he said.
With the price of spaghetti sorted, a back-up plan for ice, next on Wall's to-do list was solve another minor problem which was providing power to the assistant coaches' laptops - all up about seven a club.
Yea's population is less than 2000 and today more than double that number from neighbouring, fire-stricken areas will descend upon the picturesque football ground that is adorned by a charming, heritage-listed grandstand and an oval surrounded by established oak trees.
And Wall thinks the trees could be useful.
"As of this moment we can't get power for their laptops. They've been told they probably won't have power but we're looking at getting a 'genny' in or somehow running a cord through the tops of the trees," he said.
There was also a complication with the changing rooms. The Yea Football Club goes by the nickname the Tigers so it was a natural choice to put Richmond in the home-team's rooms, however the visitors' change-room was too small for Geelong.
The umpires claimed those rooms (and "flush toilets" were installed in them yesterday) while the Cats were allocated the CFA rooms, despite the fact that when the game starts at 4pm the players will have to cross a road before they get to the ground.
"It's not a main road," Wall said. "The fire trucks come out at 8am (today) and they are going to have sit across on the other side of the main street.
"Actually, we're praying nothing happens because the CFA guys are on the gates so if anything happens between one o'clock and four o'clock they are going to have to pee off."
Yea Football/Netball Club president Tina McNab said to have the AFL roll into town was "humbling" and a "great treat" for the community.
"This is the closest many people will get to an AFL match so it really is a fantastic feeling. I think everyone is excited, even if they're not that into footy," she said.
Not only that, the profit made from the game will go back to the community with the CFA, the football and netball club, the cricket club, the pony club, the tennis club and the Red Cross all set to benefit.
McNab explained Yea was not directly affected by the Black Saturday fires but it had also endured its share of hardships over the years including two fire threats, drought and economic difficulties.
"And the Black Fires obviously touched so many people and just about everyone from around here knows someone who was affected by the fires," she said.
And indeed this is a day for those people as well and they will be acknowledged when Kinglake brothers, Kevin and Kane Smith (Richmond and Geelong supporters who lost their home in the fires) will toss the coin.
Wall said excitement and expectation had gradually been building over the past month as the AFL inspected the ground "once or twice a week". But it had been worth the fuss.
When the AFL rolls out of town it will leave Yea, and the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League, with "a provincial class ground" that now has a $50,000 irrigation pump and $12,000 goal posts.
"They were particular to a disturbing level, some would say," Wall said. "Things have to be perfect for them these days … and as you can imagine, there is a big difference between the culture that they're used to and the culture up here."

Cats out of the middle for a point.

Quarter time
Rich 3.1-19

-
Good 1st Quarter, competitive.
-
yep, keep hearing the words tackle and pressure in relation to the tiges :thumbsup
-
LOL al
Cuz is on fire as is Lids by the sounds of it. If we had another mobile big key forward we'd be further in front.
Bomber saying we've got the more experienced team :o
We've been able to get 2-3 blokes behind the ball so it sounds like we're running well both ways.
-
Any mention of Jacko?

Jackson just mentioned now. We are wasting our opportunities inside 50, MaGuane killing Ottens.

I like how they refer to it as "Geelong half-back line" rather than our half-forward line.

Dea made am mistake then made up for it with a big tackle.
Simmo turns it over. Poinmt to cats

King another spud who can't kick.
Cotch, Martin 4 touches each.

Hard to tell via the call how we are structuring up and if we are using the zone. Glad to hear names like Taylor, Roberts and Dea mentioned positively. Nahas and Connors are having good games as is McGuane. Bloody star that McGuane hey claw! :whistle I like the way they have Dea, Farmer and Connors down back allowing Bling to work through the middle. As a result, along with Lids and Cuz, he is one of our best.
Love to see someone like Jack or Taylor get a few more but, as others have said, Polly is certainly not the answer other than to straighten us up. Better to rotate the ruckmen through here will Astbury and Griffiths develop.

question to bomber, "when do you pull off the big guns?"
In the showers after the game??

Not bad keeping any side goal less for half a game :o.
Cats pulling out the 9-10 young players line as their defence.

from the AFL site.....
Richmond 102 d Geelong 51 at Yea
A heartening win for the Tigers against an inexperienced Geelong outfit at Yea, but any victory over the reigning premier is one to be savoured. Richmond led by a goal at quarter time but proceeded to keep Geelong goalless for the following two terms to set up the win. Richmond led by more than 10 goals in the final term before Paul Chapman and James Podsiadly helped to add some respectability to the scoreline. Jack Riewoldt finished with four goals and Mitch Morton booted three for Richmond, while Troy Taylor and Relton Roberts both kicked their first majors in yellow and black. Geelong was best served by Chapman, while Travis Varcoe continued his strong pre-season, Jesse Stringer impressed and Podsiadly provided a strong target in attack.

Been working but keeping an eye on the score through this site! Well done One eyed rites! Well done Tigers! We have talent, will win a few and upset a few fancied sides but we get cop a floggings too! It goes with the territory but we are going in the right direction i feel!

You just clearly have never played football before. No1 enjoys been beaten. Geelong had 12 prem players playing against a side with 6 players above 25... Geelong don't have the attitude of turning up and going through the motions TM. Plus the other half of there side is trying to impress to get a spot in the team..

Like the shot of Luke streching out for the ball (who is that behin him?) i didnt realise he had a good leap on him.
Also love the crowd in the background, probably the best crowd they have seen at a game. This ould have really bolstered their fund that it was supporting.

-
"polak....hasn't allowd scarlett to rebound like he normally does". Interesting comment.
SPot on comment
I thought Polak was very vey good yesterday - he negated Scarlett completely Cats got very little run from the back half from Scarlett and a couple of times I though Scarlett was bothered by Polly's size - he could stuff him out of the way like he does with some forwards ;D
Actually once Jack & Polly got into "sync" our 2 main target set up worked well. That is they led to different spaces :clapping creating 2 options the Cats had to deal with :clapping
Was disappointed with Nahas at times in these situations he needed to be front an square - he wasn't, he was just a spectator. Our crumbers need to remeber to crumb
-
I have a couple of photos of the boys running out and after the game and will post them later along with my review :rollin
-
WP, eary in the game, i think it was, the callers called a couple of forward forays where they kicked to Nahas, I've also noticed this in some games (normally when we are getting humped) watching on TV as well. While I see this as possibly being a blight on the taller forward for not creating the best option or the midfielders for not taking the best option, your comments have me wondering.
Is part of his problem that he is trying to create a marking option when he should be getting into position to crumb?
-
Is part of his problem that he is trying to create a marking option when he should be getting into position to crumb?
al, he wasn't trying to create a marking target, I just thought at times when the ball came to ground he didn't get to the contest as quickly as he should or didn't read the contest well. He didn't rove the pack like say KB did back in our glory days ;D I reckon Nahas is a very good crumber
What i noticed yesterday with Polak in a contested marking contest the ball was more likely to come to the front of the pack, Roberts in particular picked this up very early, Nahas didn't and he seemed to waiting for the ball to come to the back of the pack
-
cheers WP. They are the sort of thing that you just pick up unless you are at the game.
-
Firstly, let me say I can highly recommend the Country Club Hotel for a superb meal if you ever visit Yea.
Even allowing for it being a practice match and in the overall scheme of things the result means very little if nothing at all I came away pleased with a few things. There are other things that have you doing this :banghead :banghead but it was a vast improvement on a fortnight ago
I was really pleased to see the Tigers play a more direct style of footy this week. The kicking into the F50 involved much longer kicks than what we saw down in Tassie.
The other thing too was there was alot more running out of the back line which meant the linking up through the middle via handball worked more often than not and players receiving the handball were not under as much pressure. Also when we did switch play in the back half we tried to go forward and across as opposed to the other week when we usually went either just across or backwards and across. We also didn't seem to go as wide and when did there appeared to be a effort to get the ball back in the corridor.
I really like the set-up at a lot of the centre bounce downs that had Cotchin, Martin and Thomson around the circle with Lids and Tambling sweeping in off the wings. This worked really well because Thomson thirves in congestion and has quick hands so out of traffic he offloads to say a Cotchin who then offloads to Kids or Tambling who are long penetrating kicks. At times they swapped it around with Cuz or Lids or Jackson in the middle and others on the wing but again it worked well
Having Simmo in the ruck also assisted our mids because his ruck work even if there was no tap to advantage meant there was an extra body assisting whether that be creating a path for our mids or just keeping the oppsoing ruckmand away fromt he contest. I must add that Vickery seemed to play with more confidence with Simmo in the side.
As I've mentioned in other threads I was disppointed with the disposal of some players because they continue to be unable to hit targets when they are under no pressure. And although these misses dont necessarily result in turnovers they are costly because they create extra pressure that shouldn't be there
I was really impressed with our backline this week. McGuane being there released Moore to be one of our 2 main "go to men" out of the back half. Will Thursfield seemed to moving alot better and playing with alot more confidence than he in the 2nd half of last year - was really happy to see him running and chasing blokes down.
It was also pleasing to see much more defensive pressure coming from our forwards. Tom Hislop may have poor disposal but it is very clear to see why he is there and what his role is. Roberts is find - he has pace, is bloody good tackle and has something I love "FOOTY SMARTS" and gee he is deceptively quick. It took close to 2 quarters but once Jack and Polly got in "sync" and out of each others way the forward set up actually worked well.
And just on the game plan - when it works it is great to watch and will win you a lot of games. When it doesn't come off (like Tassie) it is awful and you could get thumped. We have a very young side and as a result I reckon we are going to have good days and shockers but I did come away yesterday thinking there is a tiny (more likely miniscule) light at then end of a very very long tunnel - we just have to kept persisting with these kids
Playerr reviews to come..... ;D
-
Thanks WP :thumbsup Great report! :cheers
How was King? What about Webberly?

-
The players how I thought they went (and remember it's just MHO ;D)
2. Will Thursfield - liked Will's game. Good to see him running and chasing hard. His closing speed seems to be back
3. Brett Deledio -BOG for mine by a long long way. Ran hard, chased harder, tackled hard and his disposal was spot on. Fantastic game
5. Troy Simmonds - played about 10 minutes a qtr but when he was on the ground he was good. He and the mids worked well together. Was also great see his leadership at centre ball ups calling the mids into a circle to obviously discuss and plan
6. Graham Polak - I posted this somewhere else on this thread but I though Polly was very very good. He was matched up on Scarlett and Scarlett (who I rate as one of the best fullbacks in the game) gave the Cats very little if any run from the backline. Also, our crumbers need to realise that with Polly (like richo) in a contested marking contest that if Polly doens't mark it there is big chance he will bring it to ground... be ready
8. Jack Riewoldt - dropped 3 of the easiest marks in the first qtr and a bit of the game but after that he was good. Once he and Polly worked who would lead to which area rather leading to the same spot the structure worked. Another pleasing thing is Jack would lead up the ground and then quickly double back towards goals and get his opponent out of position - got a couple of goals doing this = smart FWD play :clapping
9. Trent Cotchin - started slowly. First half was average, 2nd half was good with his third qtr a atandout
10. Shane Edwards - liked his game. Actually seeing him standing next to couple of the Geelong kids he looked like he had actually added some muscle ;D thought his disposal was very good and his running through the centre was more direct this week
15. Mitch Farmer - I was really impressed with Mitch. Why? because I really enjoy watching blokes putting in 2nd and 3rd efforts. On a couple of occasions Mitch got beaten in the first contest but he backed it up with a 2nd effort and won the ball back and it doens't hurt that he can tackle ;D
16. Luke Mcguane - good first up effort by Luke.
17. Chris Newman - dare I say it - solid game by the skipper - everything he did was clean and precise. Clearly he is one of the "go to" guys runnng out of the back half
19. Daniel Connors - KRock said he was solid so he must have been :rollin Seriously I didn't notice him that much but as I've already said although the disposal was better this week, he still misses a few to many targets when he is under little pressure
20. Mitch Morton - pretty quiet game by Mitch despite kicking 2 goals. Good to see him willing to work harder defensively
23. Daniel Jackson - like Simmo - first game of the pre-season and had limited game time. Nothing flashy but his altercation with Varcoe was entertaining. Good goal in the 3rd
25. Angus Graham - didn't play but should have a look at Simmo's tape of this game ;D
26. Robin Nahas - as mentioned already - disappointed with Nahas' game. Missed to many targets especially in the first half. Much better in the 2nd half when he played as a permanant forward. Not sure we can afford to have him running of the HB line
27. Tom Hislop - kicking at times continues to be shocking :D but his defensive pressure and attack on contest in the forward line creates opportunities for the Roberts of this world
28. Jake King - rarely noticed Jake no impact
29. Tyrone Vickery - much better game from Ty. He just seemed to play with more confidence knowing Simmo was in the side. Based on yesterday for round one Simmo & Vickery to be our ruck division
30. Richard Tambling- started on the bench (first 3 minutes) after that he was away and one of the best on the day.
31. Adam Thomson - very good game indeed. Super quick hands at stoppages
32. Ben Cousins - a typical Cuz game - all class ;D
36. Dustin Martin - quiet day compared to Tassie but in a way a good thing - he will learn. But credit to the kid he didn't drop his head
40. Kelvin Moore - terrific game from Kel. His running out of the back half set up many drives into our F50 and his disposal this week was spot on :clapping
43. Matt Dea - was super impressed with this kid. Terrific body size = very solid. Reads the play well and actually played "tall" a couple of times. Good clean disposal majority of the time
44. Troy Taylor - started well but I think ran out of "puff". Needs to work hard on his 2nd efforts a couple of times he was very slow in reacting and didn't chase. But overall a good start - certainly has great skills and a good turn of pace
46. Jeromey Webberley - didn't come on until the 2nd half but it was worth it. First kick was a shocker (turnover) but after that terrific. At one point in the final qtr he ran the ball from the HBF line to just outside 50 - we wanted him to have a shot but he did the team thing and looked for the target - I was so disppointed :rollin
50. Relton Roberts - fantastic first up game. Magical skills and brillant footy smarts. And when he puts the burners on - he isi bloody fast :clapping Defensive pressure was excellent along with his 2nd and 3rd efforts. WOuld have done his chances of senior list promotion no harm at all

Hey WP,
Thanks for the report.
Did Geebung put us under strong zoning defensive pressure?
-
Great report WP. Thanks :thumbsup
-
Like the shot of Luke streching out for the ball (who is that behin him?) i didnt realise he had a good leap on him.
I don't think that isn't Luke #16, it looks more like Tom Hislop to me but as he has a number on his back ending with 6 it may be Nahas. The hair colour is wrong and those aren't Lukes legs, but then I could be completely wrong. My initial thought was it was Dustin Martin #36.

Just a little comment on what i saw at Yea.
Nice little place Yea, it was the first time i have been through that Kinglake area since the fires and if you haven't been yet it’s worth a look. The scars it has left are just overwhelming, never really understood the magnitude of what occurred till this weekend.
That aside WP and a couple of others have done very well to summarize the game so i'll just add some things i noticed.
I was near the interchange for most of the match and it was really interesting to see what state the players came off in. Those in their first game were blowing pretty hard, to be expected of course. Cotchin seem to be struggling a little more than the rest of the midfielders, which makes you wonder what he could produce when he is fully match fit. I really wish Jake King had better skills as he is so vocal and you can see he loves the team and his mates, such a pity really.
The game, well it would be really nice if teams could drop out 12 starting players ever time we play them. The space afforded to players like Deledio and Tambling really helped them to shine. A couple of times Lids ran through the centre with space and it was just a beautiful sight, hopefully we are surrounding him players that can afford him that space on a more regular basis.
I can see now why we kept Simmonds, he just brings that bit more experience and stronger body in the middle which will help when swapping roles with Vickery/Browne/Graham. He isn’t the greatest but he does help.
Troy Taylor surprised me with his size, a lot taller than I expected and in a few years could really be something that will worry defenders. Matty Dea was also a surprise I expected a lean basketballer type body, but he has some good muscle already.
Relton Roberts caused a buzz around the area I was. After his first couple of attacks on the ball and magical pickups there was an expectant chatter every time he got near it. Has tremendous vision and one of those players that has more time than everyone else. Oh and he lays a heavy tackle too.
All in all I felt like our undoubtedly talented midfield got a lot more help from either end. Defense looked solid, but there wasn’t a whole lot to defend (though Podsiadly would both worth considering in your DT).
Our forwards were getting a lot more balls to their advantage which is such a sight to behold, I have long thought that the midfielders hate the forwards or vice versa as they seem to make each other’s jobs so difficult. A lot better yesterday.
So as long each team’s drops a dozen players we should do very well this year, haahah. But seriously there were some genuine positive signs and I again look forward to the season, but more so the seasons ahead.

Did Geebung put us under strong zoning defensive pressure?
Not really - that's one of the reasons I rated Polak so highly. I think Geelong looks towards to Scarlett as one of their keys for that and he wasn't able to play that role

Nice pics WP. Cotch and Ty were good enough to stare down the lens ;D

Turning into a Newy fan WP ;D
Cheers WP, cranny and everyone for their detailed reports. A great read :thumbsup :clapping :cheers

The game plan has worked fairly well in our past 5 quarters when we didn't have to counter a cluster zone and there was room to run, link up and go long and direct. When the zone is in place if you can't penetrate it quickly with fast clean precise disposal (see Dogs on Friday night) then it forces your defenders to kick wide and backwards when you switch play and traps you forcing you into error. Interesting to see in the season proper what the cubs have learnt from the Hawthorn game and how we'll adapt if faced with that cluster zone again. Opposition coaches will surely use the cluster zone quite often against us, seeing how we struggled big time with it, until we show the maturity, discipline, speed and skill to counter it. You're right WP it won't be pretty to watch in the short-term until we do.

Yeah I am pretty sure it is Dustin as well MT, on a second look.

Excellent reports WP & Cranny and great pics WP. :thumbsup :thumbsup What a fantastic country footy oval. Ground looks superb from the pics.

It's a double-edged sword in some way MT. Just like us last year, when we tried to apply the zone and weren't skillful/disciplined enough to carry it off allowing opposition sides to rebound from our mistakes, so it will be with many other sides who are only learning to play such an intense zoning type of game. Hawthorn are head and shoulders above the other clubs who try this as we saw 2 weeks ago but we will have opportunities against other clubs because we are now learning how to play against it correctly and we are practicing the specific skills needed to do so. Let them try - I think some might have their pants pulled down and bums spanked in the mistaken belief that they are dealing with the 'same old Richmond'.

Looks like we are playing the Pies at Visy Next! Should be interesting.

Great reports Thanks. :clapping

Amazing reports canny and WP :thumbsup :clapping

Gee Relton has trimmed down a bit.
-
Wow! Just noticed it Beren. He has lost quite a bit.
On closer inspection, the thing that I am impressed with the most is, apart from Simmo, there is bugger all strapping on the legs and shoulders of our players. So good to see we are not risking players who are carrying injuries. With the way the game is played these days, we can't send players out half baked anymore, otherwise we will be caught out every time.

That's true smokey. The Hawks and Saints are the two best sides at it. The Swans for different reasons have been a strong defensive side as well and have owned us numerous times. However you're right - most sides wouldn't be capable of pulling off the cluster zone to nowhere such a ruthless degree.
Round 1 will be interesting because Carlton under Ratten don't use suffocating zoning and are more a open play team relying on their midfield ballwinning strength.

Some highlights of the game.

Thanks Wayne.
Looks like Roberts had a fair impact.
-
Thanks Wayne, yeah Roberts looks great, love to see him in against the Blues.
-
man that stuffen bigpond site sucks major arse.
it never works and im spewing cuz i wanted to see jimmy blacksmith running around.
-
Only works in IE for me Ox.
I know they are the highlights but I like the positive way we moved the ball in that video. Someone always free or at worst 1-on-1 forward of the play to receive the ball. A sign we were working harder and spreading. Nice switch of play to the free man on the outer side and then cut in to a lead up CHF and then quickly on long to the forwards who either marked or brought the ball down to crumbers front and square running towards the goal at pace. Old school footy but it obviously worked well as we had control of the middle of the ground for most of the day.
Great crowd btw. By the sound of it they were into the game and pro-Tigers :thumbsup.
-
Ox I think you are being too kind to Bigpond there.
It works for me sometimes in firefox, but i dont run windows so it I cant get it to work at all with a bit of mucking about. When trying to get as much exposure as possible for somethi9ng like you would the AFL want, using propriatory crap systems like silverlight is just plain mental, but no real surprise. Put two mentally deficient organisations in bed together and the result will always be wacko.
-
My 2 bob's worth on the Bigpond videos. I bit the bullet the other day and clicked on "Download Silverlight", expecting nothing to happen on my Linux/Firefox machine but I was pleasantly surprised when it downloaded a Firefox addon call "Moonlight". A few seconds and couple of clicks later and I was watching Relton running around kicking goals. Yep, I hated having to click anything that said "I agree" in relation to Microsoft and Bigpond but I have to say it was free, easy and it works so I can't complain - after all, thats why I went to Linux in the first place!
-
I think I may have just now installed the same add on. I git it from http://go-mono.com/moonlight/download.aspx and i didnt have to agree to anything !!
but when i tried to watch the video i got video not available as with any thing else i tries to watch there.
booted up vbox and could watch the video so there was a lot of cursing going on, then half way through it stopped playing and the same message came up so im hoping it's just more incompetence from telsta.
on the firefox in windows, i upgraded silverlight and flash and now cannot watch these with firefox windows version.

I just tried the AFL site and couldn't watch any videos Al, but I could watch all the live TV channels so maybe it is something with their video feeds at the moment. I had no problem last night watching the videos.
