Title: MRP watch
Post by: one-eyed on April 15, 2012, 09:16:13 AM
The media not only single out big Ivan but Rance also  :-\

Richmond will have a nervous wait to see how the match review panel views incidents involving Alex Rance's clumsy late spoil on Jack Watts early in the second quarter and an exchange involving Ivan Maric during a melee.

The AFL is also likely to examine incidents where players struck their heads on the hard Astroturf outside the MCG boundary.

Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes was concussed late in the match when he landed over the boundary, while Tiger Daniel Jackson was earlier left dazed.

Did anyone notice just before the melee started that a Melbourne player stopped trying to punch the ball and was deliberately punching the Richmond player (who was holding him in a tackle) in the head ?  The players involved (can't remember who they were) were both lying on the ground at the time.

They'll probably cop 2-3 weeks each just to even it up after Conca was allowed to serve his suspension in the Nab Cup.

Yeah the Melbourne player starting punching the tackler in the head, dunno who it was from memory.  Everyone arced up. DH commentators were going on about how tough Davey was because he was punching Ellis...Doesn't take a backward step, maybe Ellis was trying not to get reported for hitting the little prick back.  He better go for a row if our blokes do.

has points - suspended round 1 last year for a late hit on some Carlton player. 2-3 games for memory

Buddy grabs Johncock by the leg. Free kick paid for the trip.
Commentators then ask whether he's in trouble and all say they don't want to see Buddy suspended.  :o

So not only does Buddy (and a few other pets like Judd) get the rub of the umpiring - note the holding Talia's arm with one hand and pushing in the back with the other - but they also operate to a different set of rules at the MRP.

pretty sure tripping is only reportable if by done by foot.

I kept watching the footage of the scuffle over and over, and unless there's any better video somewhere else I can't see Maric getting done unless Davey gets done too. The footage is flimsy, but the footage of Davey is clear as day.

Very sure that it's reportable by hand as well.
They jumped in a few years ago when they realised the damage that could be caused by any type of trip.
Imagine if Johncock had damaged his ankle/knee while Buddy was holding and twisting.

Obvious though that they Anderson will find some way to get him off if you go by Judd splitting Pavlich's face open with an elbow.

they may have changed it, but it was only by foot.
by hand has grey areas as to whether it is deliberate ( not buddys' though), tripping by leg is straight forward.

we'll find out in the next 24 hours

Willy, we can't afford to lose the cleaner at the club house at the moment mate, honestly, this goes to show that we really don't have the depth. This has been one of our biggest problems over theses and continues to affect us.

We just can't lose anyone.

I agree with you WAT. Our depth is still weak, but some of our players are more expendable than others. We could afford a Jackson an Edwards, or even a Newman to go down, but Rance is critical 1. because he's blossomed into a consistent performer 2. because his potential replacements are either injured or poo.

for mine that was a joke of a suspension and was similar to the whitecross incident with J.Selwood, Waite turned blind straight back into Rance, all Rance did was hold his ground, he didnt bump him, was he meant to move out of the way and allow Waite to run free, was a joke of a suspension.

and are they serious that they might look at Rances late spoil on Watts? LOL!!! that was a SOFT pat, barely connected

fair enough your call, i saw it differently, i didnt see it as Rance trying to knocking him down, I saw him stand his ground and Waite ran straight into his shoulder. If he tried to bump him even slightly then Id say fair enough, but for mine I didnt think he did.

From the Afl site:

Richmond's Ivan Maric has escaped penalty, despite appearing to strike Melbourne's Jordie McKenzie. The Match Review Panel ruled the contact was with an open hand and lacked the force to be reportable.

The AFL gave the AFL the all clear over the boundary artificial turf  :wallywink...

AFL's all-clear for MCG turf
By Ashley Browne
Tue 17 Apr, 2012

THE ARTIFICIAL turf surrounding the MCG playing surface has been given a clean bill of health, following a series of tests conducted by the AFL on Monday.

Concerns were raised on Saturday after Melbourne's Jack Grimes and Richmond's Daniel Jackson twice clashed with each other outside the boundary line.

Grimes was booked for a sling tackle after the first incident, and was then helped from the ground after the second clash when his head slammed into the artificial turf.

The League applied the Clegg Hammer test to gauge the softness of the artificial turf at both the MCG and Etihad Stadium on Monday and found both surfaces to meet acceptable standards.

The artificial turf was introduced around the MCG perimeter at the start of last season and runs from two metres outside the boundary line to the fence. It was installed after consultation with, and to the standards required by the ground's two main tenants - the AFL and Cricket Australia. It is also compliant to the standard required by FIFA.

Thats what I thought too Ox. Jacko was clearly putting his full weight onto Grimes deliberately knowing that he could not be suspended for rear end contact. Grimes's bloody nose came not from the Artificial turf but from when Jacko let rip with a Butter chicken beauty!
