back in December it was "very minor surgery, will be back in full training after the xmas break"

It's still after the xmas break :shh

It's still after the xmas break :shh
doh, should've read "straight after the xmas break"
-
Well we have a full list at the moment and lets hope we go into the season proper in this shape!!! We will then see if we have what it takes and if we have a coaching staff to get us there.

i still think durdin or lever should have been taken at 12. im still rueing we did not take blakeley at 33.
its an odd draft for me we didnt take one player at eacch pick i would have wanted us to take, but for once i dont have any real problems with the players they did take. people keep talking mids but imo we missed a chance to stock up on talls and still address some the midfield probs we had.
if i have a gripe its the trade period. our failure to move on some players and failure to target needs in this period.
on ellis it seems he was always the one in our sights from a long way out.. it concerns me and continues a theme with jackson.
me im going to give the kid a chance before i pass judgement on the merits of the pick. ffs sooner or later francis has to get one right doesnt he. maybe ellis is the gem among the picks in this draft it has to happen at some stage surely.

Think he has to be ruled out for at least 12 weeks to be placed on the LTI list.....can't upgrade a rookie in his place otherwise.....

Correct
At the moment we can only elevate one rookie

As RFC say...."He's amazing and we're justified in wasting a spot/career on him"
-
Put him on the LTI and be done with him. Upgrade Arnot and Lambert and delist Foley
-
Needs to do the right thing by the club and retire - hopefully setting an example for Newman in the process....
-
Well that's it then. Season over.

Peter Burge's injury update:
* Foley had a bit of an issue with his plantar fascia and the bottom of his foot so he needed a small release done to help alleviate that. He should only be sidelined reasonably short term. We're thinking somewhere around the six-week mark but we'll see how he goes. He is a super-positive athlete, so I'm sure his recovery will be quicker than most.
* Lids is no issue. There's hasn't been any issue. However, with his achilles history, there's been a change of approach with his training management over the preseason. He can still work at high intensity but we monitor the number of the sessions per week. He's right to play this week.
* Cotch in on a managed program. He's doing a lot of conditioning work but hasn't missed anything. Doing stuff to the side of the main group and with the main group. All about managing him so he's right for round 1 against Carlton. He should play in the NAB Challenge in a couple of weeks [so presumably that will be against North].

dont you think its up to the club to get rid of him? :yep
In newman's case i believe he should have walked, but the club is at fault here not now but about 3 years ago i think when they extended his contract by 2/3 years.

No idea if he played the full VFL game. According to BF, it was more soreness after his first outing against the Dogs due to him missing so much footy.

Nathan Foley has been cleared to play in a VFL practice match this Saturday after overcoming a foot injury.
Vickery cleared of any structural damage but swelling and soreness around the knee would rule him out for one week.

Medical update - April 13:
VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2015-04-13/medical-update-april-13th
Lambert - He’s got a grade three AC joint which is going to require a little bit of surgery, unfortunately. A couple of anchors put on his AC joint to help that heal. He was pretty sore but we did what we could to get him back out there because we had a few guys that were down. So it was pretty brave of him to get back out and do what he did but we won’t see him for a couple of weeks [website saying 6-8 weeks].
Petterd - It’s really disappointing for Rick. He pulled up sore after the game and scans later on confirmed what’s called a lisfranc injury. He’s going to miss some time out of the game [3 months]. He’s going to need surgery which he’s having tonight and we just need to get him back into a rehab program and slowly progress him back through that.
Edwards - Shane’s good. It was a pretty minor calf injury but just enough to keep him out of the game which was a little disappointing. But we’ll get him back hopefully this week and we look forward to seeing him Saturday night.
Deledio - Brett’s good as well, so we’re looking to progress his running this week and we’ll make a decision later in the week whether he plays on Saturday night.
Vickery - The Club is expecting Ty to be available for selection this weekend.

Doc Larkins' injury update: round two
Nick Bowen
afl.com.au
April 13, 2015
Brett Deledio, Richmond (Achilles tendon)
He was suspended last round but had a really sore Achilles and was subbed out of the Tigers' round one win over Carlton. He will need to get through a fitness test to play against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night.
Shane Edwards, Richmond (calf tightness)
Missed round two but I expect him to get up for Saturday night's clash against the Lions.

At least Knights and Pettard gave eachother in the rehab room
-
We're getting a fair few leg injuries early in the season,
Knights, Conca, Grimes, Dea - hammy's
Lids, Titch, Chappy - calves
Coupla foot injuries - Axel, Pettard
Burge trying to get them fitter might have caused some fallout?
-
Why aren't Chaplin and Newy on the injury list ?
-
Good observation muscles. I wouldn't mind if Chaplin was rested because he hasn't been particularly spectacular for us for some time bar that Port game where he was played as a forward. Getting Lids and Titch right is super important for our structure.
-
Newy will be on injury list for a while unfortunately
-
These consistent soft tissue injuries seem to be reaching almost epidemic proportions, surely this needs to be investigated further, is it to do with a new training regime?
-
Lids should have not played rd 1 poor management by our club like Maric last preason.
-
These consistent soft tissue injuries seem to be reaching almost epidemic proportions, surely this needs to be investigated further, is it to do with a new training regime?
Needs to be a full scale investigation, with a few jobs on the line , training over the course of a season is a slow burn, don't flog the stuff out of the players or this what happens ...look how Bart Cummings prepares for the Melbourne cup, they sure aren't peaking at Easter :banghead
-
Drummond confirmed ACL, done for the year. Poor bugger.
At least its early in the season and he may get some sort of pre season in.

Maybe they haven't been trained hard enough? There is absolutely no evidence we have been fitter so far this year. Certainly compared to Melbourne or the Bulldogs

Bring in Chaplin, Newman, Deledio, Grimes and Conca :shh
-
Regarding the soft tissue injuries, not sure if this is just sour grapes from an ex employee but apparently we cut our budget to the recovery department. A masseuse who is apparently pretty well regarded was given the stuff and players can no longer see him at his house as they used to given the strict rules now surrounding seeing people outside of the club.

Physical Performance Manager, Peter Burge's report on our injuries:
VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2015-04-28/medical-update-april-28th
* Troy Chaplin's calf was pretty minor but it just wasn’t good enough to play. He was coming off a hard deck up at the Gabba. He pulled up a bit sore but we’re expecting him to play this week.
* Chris Newman copped a pretty big knock to his back last week. It was pretty sore for the whole week and we just couldn’t get him up to play. We’re hoping he can train and be available for selection this week.”
* Brett Deledio resumes running this week. He probably unlikely to be available this weekend but we’ll see how that progresses over the week. Hopefully, we’ve got him back doing skills next week and we can get him playing some game time really soon. It’s been frustrating for everyone but we’re looking forward to having him back training with the group next week.
Full article: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2015-04-28/chaplin-set-to-return#sthash.iwe56ldG.dpuf
* Dylan Grimes (hamstring) and Reece Conca (hamstring) are also available for selection.
* The news is not so good for Ben Griffiths, who Burge said will miss one to two weeks with a calf injury picked up in the loss to the Demons.
* Nathan Drummond will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, but Burge is confident he will be able to play in next year's pre-season competition.

always feel for long termers on the injury list no matter who they are
But for the 2 first year kids it must extremely hard indeed

Yeah really disappointed about Butler - looks a real goer and exactly the type we need.

Yep. Been saying it for a while, though not just in relation to all these recent injuries.

The Maric incident last preseason was laughable the exuse was it was a mis communcation between partys that's why he didn't have surgery early on and he missed the start of the season :banghead. That was laughable and you would not see that at a pub side.It look's like Lids wasn't ready to go rd 1 to now.

Isn't concussion automatic out according to new rules?
-
This club is a joke, they are covering up numerous injuries. Corey Ellis and Nick Vlastuin are both stuffed :banghead
-
Isn't concussion automatic out according to new rules?
I'm not sure so purely speculating but is that only if they fail a concussion test?
-
Isn't concussion automatic out according to new rules?
Only on match day. Fail the test when you come off and you are out of he game
But no go off concussed during the game and if all testing shows during the week that your right to go you can play.
Know there was a case a few weeks back (interstate team for memory) where a player was knocked out cold, taken off on a stretcher and played the next week and the media went ape droppings over it

Isn't concussion automatic out according to new rules?
I'm not sure so purely speculating but is that only if they fail a concussion test?
The guidelines, and that is all they are, at our football club is two weeks out after being concussed. We won't necessarily adhere to that but we will if a player has headaches, irritability, nausea etc. A lot of the times, the players lie about their symptoms anyway so just so they can play (and get a match payment).
-
They do cognitive tests at afl level, benchmarked against earlier results, pretty sophisticated ....ideally though a fortnight rest is best
There are a lot of examples of players claiming it took weeks to recover after a heavy knock

Upgrade "the rookie"
We have a first year player and a very very average footballer not due back until about round 18 and yet we don't upgrade a rookie or two. Give the kids some hope an upgrade them. Castagna has definitely earnt it and Short has been pretty good too and is exactly the sort of player we need running around in our forwardline.
As we have seen, sometimes the injection of something new can make a big difference.

If Petterd, Knights and Drummond are on the LTIL does that leave two spots open on the senior list? With Arnot taking the other spot. (Lambert was upgrade before the season started I think)
If so that really only leaves George and Jayden Short, and why wouldn't you?

Any idea on numbers for upgrading a rookie? Surely it's a drop in the ocean in a business like the RFC?
Although nothing would surprise me considering the club hasn't even got the decency to put guys on the injury list so supporters can keep track of our young guys coming through. I've made an effort to go to a few reserves games this year to watch how a couple of my favorites are going but then when they get injured I cannot even find out how they are progressing. Usually I wouldn't give a poo but this has really peeed me off!

Dr you should know better than me but really we shouldn't take any notice of either of those lists
HUN is always a week behind and the RFC well it's not worth screen the link it comes from.
Dea misses two weeks from injury and isn't even listed, Knights is 2-3 weeks away that's what we got told the other week. I'm sure I heard in another interview on the wireless last week that Foley should be back in a "couple"
I think with our injury list the RFC throws magnets up in the air and whatever lands against someone's name is the number of weeks they put list against said palyer. In Dea's case I think his magnet didn't originally land on the board

On another front, Foley himself thinks he is cooked. Knee injury, contract up at end of year....
He doesn't expect to be given another one......

Anyone taking bets on when Knights breaks down again
-
Well gee how good would it be to see a fit and firing Knights come in for the last 4 or so rounds of the season!!
-
Really think that Knights is a lame duck to be honest, his body is like trying to fix a leaky dam, plug one hole and another one appears. Would love to see him play a part in the last part of the season but just don't think he will manage it, would love to be proven wrong.

Yeah agree.

Crows supporters actually forgot he was on their list when he was there.
It's a real shame because he looked real promising for that brief period back in 2013.

I agree and I have to applaud the bloke for coming back from this latest injury earlier than everyone thought
He's had a wretched run with injury and he probably knows he is up against it but I don't think anyone can question his commitment or want to come back
I heard him speak at pre-match few backs now and he is just a really impressive individual, who's well respected by all the other players. He might not get out on the paddock but I reckon he has given our youngster a lot leadership with his example and work ethic
I wish him all the best

RICHMOND forward Ben Griffiths will be sidelined for up to three weeks after having minor surgery on his shoulder.
Griffiths injured his shoulder in the third quarter of Saturday's win against Greater Western Sydney and was subbed out of the game not long after.
The 23-year-old has had a minor clean-up of his injured shoulder and the club expects him to miss between two and three weeks.

I know that if Ellis was ready to play this weekend I'd like to know now before he's selected (reserves or seniors).

Does indefinite mean forcibly retired?

Don't disagree with the first two.
I also remember a few doggies supporters sniffing around Elton earlier this year on Big Footy.
I'm of the opinion now that it may be in our best interest to keep Conca, he is a ready made player.
It has been soooo dissapointing that he has had setback after setback but honestly what value would he offer in a trade compared to what he could offer fully fit?
Big gamble? Probably
I believe he has more to offer to his teammates and club. Let's wait and see

If you believe in the tooth fairy then you can believe the validity of the published injury list. Having said this I also believe coaches don't like to give too much away and therefore aid in the opposition's strategies for the coming week's game so Lennon could fit in under this category.

Can a finger really keep you out 8-9 weeks ? Couldnt he just strap the bugger to the finger next to it and play on without surgery ? I dont know much.. seems like he may be getting his shoulder fixed instead though

No definitely a ruptured tendon in his finger, which means and OER's doc can confirm but the tendon moves long the finger and is out of place and the only way it can be fixed is by surgery.
It is painful and that's what happened here. The tendon has been re-attached, similar to what they do when the hamstring tendon is ruptured and gets ra-attached to the bone
Nothing to do with his shoulder

Correct WP. The tendon is a relatively poorly supplied tissue when it comes to blood supply. Because of this, healing takes a lot longer!

are we talking about a mallet finger here?

Difficult to know but I would guess not. Most mallet finger injuries can be treated conservatively.

OER's doc can confirm
Yeah pretty much a more serious finger injury that takes time to heal. Unlike a fractured/dislocated finger it can't just be strapped to the finger next door

Well that sucks, Griffiths isn't getting much luck at all.

Amputation a better option?

Why doesn't they amputate his troublesome shoulder while they're at it! :whistle

Griffs discussing his injured finger on the Talking Tigers podcast:
“I finished the game with it and I didn’t really think about it too much at all.
“It wasn’t until the ‘doc’ told me how serious it could be that I had to get my head around it.
“But I’m still holding out hope (of a playing return this season) . . . I’m aiming for that.
“Once I get out of the cast in about six weeks I’m hoping I’ll be able to slide back in.
“I’m not allowed to run just yet, I’ve got to wait for the wounds to heal. But I’m hoping by this Saturday I’ll be able to start trotting around the track.
“And then, because I can still run, I’ll be fit.
“So it’s just a matter of waiting to get this thing off my hand, and how quickly I can get the strength back in the hand.”
