Brisbane Lions early 2000's vs Geelong late 2000's

Obvious question now.

In my opinion,

Both stellar midfields.

Brisbane's backmen, likes of Leppitsch, Michael, Pike, Scott Bros, Chris Johnson better than Geelongs as a unit but Scarlett clearly best defender out of the two teams.

Brisbane had key forwards in Lynch, Bradshaw, Brown that Geelong don't have. Geelong had edge in small-to-mid forwards Chapman and Johnson for Luke Power.

All-in-all, Brisbane for me.

Brisbane had a more potent forward line and not as dysfunctional as Geelong.
Geelong have won 2 flags without a pure key forward. Brisbane had Brown and Lynch something Geelong clearly don't have.
Midfields are on a par. Aker and Black won Brownlows during that era as have Ablett and Bartel. Backlines have been the launching pads to both teams success.
I am with you Jake. Brisbane easily based on the Brown and Lynch factor versus the Mooney/ Nathan Ablett/ Lonergan/ Hawkins.

Brisbane easily for mine. Brisbane would hurt and intimidate Geelong into submission. Voss, Brown, the Scotts etc would get into Geelongs heads with their relentless attack on the ball and players such as Black, Aker, Power etc were a better midfield team than Geelongs midfield. Geelong has the better tagger in Ling, better full back in Scarlett, better midfielder in Ablett but as Tucker said Brisbane was stong across the ground with a terrific forwardline, backline and midfield.

Even Geelong's midfield doesn't come close. Geelong's a great side but not quite in the Lions' league.

That’s two flags in three years for Geelong. They must be pretty good. But how good?
They’re exceedingly good. It’s always hard to compare teams from different eras but Geelong are the team of the decade, undoubtedly. Brisbane Lions were monstrous a few years back and Essendon in 2000 were so good they were scary, but none was as classy as these Cats. Geelong’s midfield is the envy of the competition – Ablett, Bartel, Selwood, Corey, Chapman are the AFL’s version of the Harlem Globetrotters – but key position players like Matthew Scarlett, Cam Mooney and the emerging Harry Taylor mean there are winners all over the park. And Geelong are adaptable, too. They’re good in the wet for such a skilled unit and have a game-plan that can withstand the strangling tactics of a side as defensively excellent as St Kilda. For the sake of their legacy, Geelong really needed to beat the Saints on Saturday. And they did. Three flags in four years, anyone?

Yeah thats what I thought too. Its not a stretch to say Geelong, but to suffix with 'undoubtedly' kind of gives it away.

Brisbane for me too. Geelong are a great team and are very adaptable but the Lions had individual champions across every line similar to the Hawthorn sides of the late 80s. Forward line and rucks were stronger and more influential on games. The three-peat tips the balance in Brisbane's favour as well.

Paul Roos says a side is only as good as its bottom 6, for me that means Brisbane is a stronger combination that Geelong.

Geelong has the 2 best players in Scarlett & Ablett, but Brisbane has the depth and pure consistency of peaking in September on 3 of 4 occaisions.
