What the past few years have shown is no matter how much footy evolves and changes the fundamentals of the game don't especially in the finals. You still need to be able to win your own ball, kick, chase, tackle, read the play, etc and work together as a team. Under Plough we fell away in so many of these fundamental areas of the game.
I agree with Rohan's comment that the game is becoming more like soccer. Soccer went from a simple long-ball game to one of intricate passing requiring elite (foot)skills. The tactics used coming out of the back-half are Soccer tactics whereby you set up and move the ball sideways and back again to try and outflank the opposition on the fat side (switching the play) or you hit on a quick counterattack if there's a turnover. It's all about pass and move, pass and move into space. If only Tiger players understood basic footy strategy especially from kick-ins
