Rate a Tiger's year - 3. Brett Deledio?
« on: October 24, 2009, 05:11:40 PM »
Lids played every match this season to crack the 100 game milestone and bring up back-to-back B&Fs. He had 30+ disposals against Geelong (R2), Brisbane (R7), Adelaide (R14), Collingwood (R20) and Hawthorn (R21) and less than 20 disposals against the Bulldogs x2 and Sydney (R19).

Career so far....
Games     Disposals   Marks    Tackles    G.B (total)
2005:     22            15.3         3.9       1.7         14.10
2006:     21            18.8         6.5       1.7           5.12
2007:     19            18.4         5.4       1.9         21.10
2008:     22            24.5         7.0       2.2         28.10
2009:     22            24.2         5.4       3.5         20.15

On reflection, how did we all rate Lids' year?

Only rated him an 8 because I know he can do better.

I gave him a 7 because despite being our best player he was well down on form for the first half of the year and almost got dropped by Rawlings. I suspect all was not well with him mentally(re our coach :P) given the 2nd half of his year was significantly better across all aspects of his game.
I expect more from Lids hence it's a relatively disappointing score from him and I hope Hardwick is able to draw the best out of him on a consistent basis than Wallet was.

5.

If a lesser player had his year, a 9.

BUT

Lids needs to be a player the opposition and their fans fear. He isnt that.

BUT

He will become that. Hopefully 2010 sees Lids stamp himself on the competition

I gave him an 8, if his entire season was like his last 5-6 games then it would have been a 10
I still think people are too harsh on him, he's the only genuine elite player on our list

No they're not.
The coaching staff and his peers were just as harsh on Brett after the first half of his year as anyone.
He sel admitted that he'd been 'slack'.
That's not good enough when playing for the Y&B no matter how talented you are.
I'll be looking for a vastly improved effort next season and I expect we'll get it.

I gave him a 7.

Struggled big time early in the year and improved significantly once the Dried Sultana parted ways with the club. I know and I am sure he knows he can do better. An indictment on him and the club that he won our B&F in such a poor year where there were really no standout players week in week out all year. I can only hope he is a 9 next year and his performances remain consistent to that 9 for the bulk of the prime of his career. Needs to step up and step up now to be the elite player we know he has the ability to be. Do it now Brett. Bring on 2010.

Gave him an 8

His 2nd half was very very good...

But in 2010 his 2nd half efforts at a minimum need to be his entire season efforts.

I am actually expectng big things from Lids in 2010

I love Lids, however in reality I believe he is just a big fish in a small yellow&black pond......at the moment.

Hopefully Hardwick can continue to De-Wallace Brett and he becomes a true superstar of the competition. :pray
