After watching Molik tonight, in one word, what a disgrace

Are you saying Women's tennis is a disgrace or Molik's performance was a disgrace.

Massive difference I would think

I have just finished watchng one of the best matches I've seen in a long time: Henin -v- Dementieve (sp?)

Far too good a match to be 2nd round

Some of the mens matches are pathetic too.... two names: Nadal & Hewitt = BORING

Actually went to the tennis yesterday - enjoyed theoutside courts for a change - some very good matches out there  :clapping

I would reckon Tomic's excuse that he was made to play well past his bedtime takes the cake in the soft & spin excuse category :wallywink.

It says a lot about the state of Aussie male tennis when a 17 year old is our only hope for the future with Hewett nearing the end of his career. It seems the popularity and media saturation of all footy codes and cricket has drained Tennis' male youth stocks.

I agree MT. Same for Basketball and other fringe sports. Baseball went to the slaughterhouse some time ago. Lets hope Tennis and Basketball don't go the same way. We need diversity but with our smaller population, I feel we can only support a few spectator sports as we just don't have the cattle.

Yep Basketball rode the MJ wave in the early-mid 90s so much so that the media were proclaiming kids would turn away from footy to play Basketball. Once MJ retired and the trendiness disappeared the whole game fell into a hole. The standard on-court is still decent from what I've seen (nowhere near NBA of course but no national comp outside the US is) but it's a shadow of those halcyon days in terms of popularity and the sport is financially a basketcase. Maybe with NBA games being shown on ONE that will help the sport.

Tennis and even you could argue Golf look a lost cause from an Australian perspective. We even suck now at Davis Cup. If we didn't host one of the grand slams Australia would be well off the Tennis world map.

Hmmm, Llyeton Hewitt getting a world no 1 ranking V Stephen Bradbury winning an Olympic gold medal?

Toss of the coin I reckon.
