Carlton's thaw on John Elliott

CARLTON may be moving to welcome back disgraced former president John Elliott as the club reels from last week's drunken player rampage.

Blues president Stephen Kernahan lunched with Mr Elliott and club heavyweights at a city restaurant 10 days ago, just hours after the drunken night of shame that has so far netted four Carlton players.

Houlihan, Walker and Betts have been suspended by Carlton for a month and from the NAB Cup.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/88496/default.aspx

"They will be suspended from the club immediately for a period of one month, and during this time they will complete all training away from the rest of the player group, and with the Northern Bullants," Kernahan said of the three players.

"They will also be unavailable for selection for the NAB Cup, and we know this will impact on their preparation for the home and away season - clearly it was completely unacceptable."

Spot on. Compare this to Geelong (actually their leadership group) suspending Stevie Johnson for 6 H/A games in 2007.

In any case hopefully it stuffs up their round 1 preparations.

Kernahan reckons all three will be lucky to play in the first couple of rounds.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/banned-trio-set-to-miss-blues-opening-games-20100104-lq38.html

Kernahan defended not extending the punishment to home-and-away matches, as Geelong did for Steve Johnson for the first five rounds of 2007, on the basis their lack of involvement with the team would effectively rule them out anyway.

''The way that [punishment] is set out they'd probably be very lucky to play in the first couple of rounds.''

Yeah, but it leaves the option open doesn't it? Good each way bet sticks!

Yep if the Blues definitely didn't want the three to play as punishment then the suspension would have included the first couple of rounds.

Weak as pee pouring out of a limp dick.

Whatever hapenned to Mitch Robinson. Didn't he sport some shiners due to fights in Melbourne as Tassie on successive nights, or did his misdemeanour fly under the radar and was conveniently forgotten?

Why suspend them through NAB cup after all that hoopla. Did they get a flogging with wet newspaper also?

Juddy do you honestly think there is no drinking culture at Carlton? ::) :lol :rollin :lol :ROTFL

Banned Carlton players set for return after NAB Cup (Herald-Sun)

Carlton has reduced the preseason ban on Betts, Houlihan and Walker to just the NAB Cup. So if the Blues lose this week then the three will be allowed to play in the NAB Challenge practice matches in the lead up to round 1.

It came across originally as just a PR exercise to take pressure off the Blues rather than Carlton being serious about punishing them and changing their drunken culture. So no surprise the Blues have now gone soft on the three.
