Joint major sponsor TAC, which puts $600,000 a year into the club's coffers and is in the final year of a three-year contract, is reportedly set to end the relationship.

I presume this is just a slack throw away line based on other journo's speculation. Suddenly it's gone from the TAC just reviewing their sponsorships to almost ending them for sure.

Maybe that's for Collingwood????
I thought the TAC gives the Pies $600,000 and the Tigers $400,000.
Wouldn't want to doubt the credibility of anyone from the Herald-Sun though.  ::)

I'm not sure FF. I remember reading somewhere that it was $900,000 from the TAC for Collingwood and $600,000 for us.

Why do the Pies get more?  Who has been sponsored the longest?  Us or them?  Seems hardly fair >:(

We have been sponsored the longest by the TAC Julz - 14+ years. C'wood is in the final year of a 3 year deal.

Our deal with the TAC is the secondest longest continuos sponsorship deal of all the Victorian  Clubs behind Geelong.

Market research shows that we have the most recognisable sponsorship in the AFL - over 85% of footy fans know who sponsors Richmond.

As for the figures my understanding is that we get between $600-700,000 per season. The Pies get between $700-750,000 per season.

Just reported on Sports Tonight that the TAC will meet tomorrow about the sponsorships of Richmond and Collingwood but a final decision won't be made until the end of the year. They'll be deciding tomorrow on what fine to hand to the Pies as a result of Cameron Cloke speeding.

TAC fines Pies $10,000
17 June, 2004

Collingwood has been fined $10,000 by the Transport Accident Commission as a result of the recent speeding incident involving youngster Cameron Cloke.

The club also said it would make a further $10,000 donation to the Road Trauma Support Team…

Maybe because 90% of motor vehicle accidents that involve a drunk driver,
involve a Collingwood supporter.

From article: Pies accept TAC fine, then match it
By Rohan Connolly, Lyall Johnson
realfooty.theage.com.au
June 18, 2004

A TAC spokesman said the commission had not made the same threat to Richmond (termination of contract if another discretion occurs) because the driving incident involving Ty Zantuck had not yet been finalised. Zantuck is still waiting for the police infringement notice, which, he has said, he will contest if it states he had been driving without a licence.

"Both clubs know what their obligations and expectations are to us in the contracts and there is a range of penalties for indiscretions. But we have made it clear to Collingwood that a similar occurrence could see their contract terminated before the end of the year," he said.

The TAC has deferred a decision on its sporting sponsorships until after the Richmond and Collingwood contracts have run their course.

Our TAC sponsorship is worth $600K while the Pies are on $800K.

TAC sticks with Tigers
15 November, 2004
Sportal

Richmond has announced that the Transport Accident Commission will continue as a major sponsor of the club in 2005.

There had been reports that the TAC was reviewing its arrangements with both the Tigers and Collingwood, however the 16-year relationship between the two bodies will now continue.

Tiger president Clinton Casey said he was pleased that the TAC had decided to stick with the club after such a poor season in 2004.

"This is another significant step for the Club since the end of the season, with more key announcements imminent," he said. "We really look forward to working with the TAC on a number of exciting initiatives in the coming months to further push the important road-safety message."
