IT'S time for an AFL investigation into the air conveyances that have been taken for granted in the league for 113 years.

... the whispers among players are starting to become roars of complaint about the new balls being delivered. Most seem heavier, fatter and more slippery.

Now I know sometimes clubs have their own theories on why players miss targets, such as opposition pressure, wind and balance, but maybe, just maybe, the balls aren't good enough.

Usually the balls don't get really heavy unless it is raining hard, when they become waterlogged and tougher on the quads when you kick. And if there is any dew, the ball will weigh considerably more.

We are hearing now that Sherrin's leather supplier went out of business last year and it has been trying different suppliers since to find the right combination.

Whatever the reason, the balls are not the same and, in my opinion, not good enough.
