NT bookie backs Tigers to finish ninth ... again
NT News
July 13th, 2010

THEY'VE done their dash on the wooden spoon - now a Territory bookmaker is trying to make some dough on Richmond finishing ninth on the AFL ladder.

Sportsbet.com.au - which paid out on the Tigers to win the wooden spoon after Round 4 - is running a special book called "Humble Pie Tigers".

A remarkable turnaround in form has seen Richmond win five of its past six matches, sparking speculation among the Tiger faithful that they might be a chance to sneak into the eight.

But Sportsbet reckons there is a better chance the Tigers will finish in their familiar ninth spot - the same position they finished in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2008.

The Darwin-based bookie has Richmond at $10 to finish ninth, but the odds blow out to $26 when it comes to the Tigers finishing just one spot higher on the ladder and making the final eight.

The smart money, however, appears to be on Richmond's bubble to burst - Sportsbet is offering a price of just $1.02 for the yellow and black to finish tenth or lower.
