In August 1990, Richmond launched the Save Our Skins campaign, with the desperate aim of raising $1 million by October 31 that year, to prevent the Club from going out of business.

The Tigers were facing the greatest crisis in their then 105-year history, with falling attendances and membership figures, along with hefty financial settlements to former players and coaches, combining, to place the Club at ‘death’s door’.

In that darkest hour, however, the Yellow and Black faithful rallied magnificently, to ensure the $1 million was reached by the deadline.

Now, 20 years on, the Tommy Hafey Club is calling on Tiger fans to come along to its last function of 2010, which will be a celebration of that inspirational Save Our Skins campaign, which was voted Richmond’s Defining Moment of the Century during the Club’s league football centenary celebrations in 2008.

“Save Our Skins.  The 20th Anniversary” will be held at Atlantic, Shed 14, Central Pier, at Docklands on Friday, August 27 from 12.15pm-2.30pm.

It promises to be a truly memorable trip down memory lane, as we relive “Captain Blood” Jack Dyer’s stirring speech at the MCG rally in August 1990, which launched the SOS campaign, the Legends match against Carlton at Windy Hill that attracted such incredible support, and many other magic moments and characters from Tigerland’s greatest off-field victory.

It was a great day and one i'll never forget. Everyone at the club pulled together during that time, shame it didn't continue when it came to "saving our on field skins" in the subsequent 20 years

Again like our season launch on a Friday afternoon. Poor timing as most have work.
Furthermore I am merely assuming that the price would be around $150 so why pay that when you can have
a three course meal at the Jack Dyer medal the following week for an extra $25.

Its a dark part of the RFC & hope nobody turns out & forgets it ever happened.

I spent three months of my life down at the club during the SOS instead of looking for a job
Horrible time thinking we weren't going to survive
We did survive but we've been down the bottom mostly since
Testament to those who have kept us going since then as well

All Tommy Hafey CLub functions are usually on a Friday arvo Tucker.

I haven't been to a THC function in a while but they are usually around $100 for THC members and $120 for non members

And for the record the money raised goes to the THC not the RFC. The THC uses its resouces & funds to support the RFC past players & footy dept. One of the bes things they did was helping out the Late Terry Smith when he was first diagnosed with cancer
