Richmond coach Damien Hardwick says Richmond has started to gain respect in the AFL after some encouraging performances in 2010.

However, Hardwick said the Club would be taking no short cuts in its bid to achieve success, in a speech delivered to guests at the 2010 Jack Dyer Medal evening.

Below is an extract from the speech:

If there is one thing I have learned in my time in football, it is that there is no short cut to success.

Success requires hard work and dedication, and it means making hard decisions.  It requires an absolute resolve to set this Club on a path and stick to it.

I want to tell supporters tonight that we commit to all these things, that we will build and build and we will get better.

We have started down that path in 2010 and I think we have made some important progress.

It is incumbent on every one of them to leave no stone unturned. I know they won’t and it is what excites me.

Any improvement across our club needs to be underpinned by the standards we set ourselves on and off the field.

The staff and players realize these standards are not negotiable and everyone around the club will hold each other accountable - that is our promise to each other, our members and our supporters.

They are standards driven from the top down and a tribute to the leadership of our President Gary March and his board, our CEO Brendan Gale and our General Manager of Football Craig Cameron.

It is something the Club is beginning to be recognized for externally and that is a very important step forward.

This club cannot afford to take short cuts and every decision we make will be done with a Premiership Cup in mind.

Hellalujah so say all of us!

Hopefully there are some hard decisions during trade week that will score us some more early-to-decent picks.
