Pendlebury plans All-Stars game for flood victims

COLLINGWOOD midfielder Scott Pendlebury says a game between Victoria and an "All-Stars" team, to raise money for victims of the Queensland floods, will be embraced by the players and is certain to be a success.

Pendlebury floated the idea last week via Twitter and said the popularity of the 2008 Hall of Fame tribute match was proof that a similar game would work.

"A few years ago I played in a tribute game for Victoria and I thought it would be a good idea to do that again with all the proceeds going up to Queensland and helping them out," Pendlebury said on SEN on Monday morning.

"Obviously the fans are dying to see a bit of football at the moment so it would be a good time to wheel it out."

The AFL has said it would consider staging a match to benefit the flood victims after already announcing a $500,000 donation.

Pendlebury imagined the game would be played on Thursday night, March 10, the day before the NAB Cup Grand Final, and feature the game's best players (who were not involved the following evening).

I wonder if the AFL will go ahead with an All-Stars game?

What would Eddie or Mick think if the Pies didn't make the NAB cup grand final and 10-12 Magpies get picked in the sides.

Using the floods and Queenslanders' trauma as an excuse to wheel out the big V again, Pendles should be ashamed of himself. Pure filth.

Funny if it goes ahead and that scenario materialises. Would find it amusing yet annoying to watch Pies players go down with mystery one week injuries and miss the game to allow players from lesser clubs to risk themselves in a game where the important thing is the $$$ collected for the flood victims.
