NFL fever sweeps through Tigerland

Richmond’s pre season training had a distinctly American flavour at the ME Bank Centre today.

The Tigers got caught up in the hype of the NFL playoffs, attempting a version of touch gridiron at the end of this morning’s session.

The game was orchestrated by Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, an avid NFL fan.

“It’s obviously a fun way to break up training a bit, but there’s a lot the players can learn from the sport,” he said.

“They picked up the game fairly well, but I don’t think we’re in any danger of losing anyone to the NFL just yet.”

The game was tied with the final play of the match when Shane Edwards scored a touchdown, after Ben Nason had earlier opened the scoring.

ok ready for the usual...We were 15th last season why are we doing this instead of training harder posts.

I like this.
Small breaks from the usual routine can really help at times, a change every now and then can help lighten spirits and give the boys a chance to relax and have fun in the group environment. This in turn helps them focus when the proper training resumes.

I know its not top level AFL but i usually do something like this once a month or so with the girls basketball teams i coach (usually letting them have some voice in what they want to do). which have gone from being the bottom team three seasons ago to runners up last season and firmly believe this is part of the success of the team.

Ben nason and Edwards running into space to score.  :thumbsup

Was this a practice run of how hardwick wants to break the zones and create space? Gridiron is another ball sport that doen'st have an offside rule.

Delidio would have had to have been quater back?

wish i had seen it.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."
