“Right here, right now, is your chance to help me . . . your chance to help us . . . and your chance to help Richmond . . .”

That was reigning Jack Dyer Medallist, Jack Riewoldt’s, impassioned plea to the assembled guests at last night’s big Fighting Tiger Fund function at the ME Bank Centre, Punt Road Oval.

Earlier, Riewoldt had proudly announced that the Club’s current playing group would be donating $125,000 towards the Fighting Tiger Fund.

“It just shows where we think this club’s going to go . . . we’re just investing in our own futures, just as you are tonight,” he said.

Clutching the famous Richmond guernsey, Riewoldt then proceeded to speak straight from the heart . . .

“Yellow and Black . . . these are our colors.  These colors here represent hundreds and thousands of fans across Australia,” he said.

“They’ve represented 1099 players.  They’ve represented 10 premierships.  But, most importantly, what they represent is this one jumper.

“I look at the jumper and I think over the last 30-odd years, it hasn’t had the success that it deserves.  But I still think of this jumper as a successful jumper.

“What will come in the future, with success, will be premierships.  Premierships turn into eras.  Eras turn into legacies.  Legacies turn into history.

“And, what a great history we have!  I’m very proud of it and very honored to be part of that history.

“But, right now, it’s time for this group here to take the baton from the 1980 premiership side.

“It’s time for the shoes of Bruce Monteath and Tony Jewell, as the last premiership captain and coach, to be filled by Damien Hardwick and Chris Newman.

“It’s time for the names like Weightman, Roach, Bartlett and Bourke, to be joined by Martin, Cotchin, Deledio and Conca . . .

“When you leave here tonight, I just want you to remember that we are Richmond - and the Tiger is stirring!”
