Chris Newman is the AFL's most reliable kick and captain of a side on the rise, but the Richmond defender remains the ultimate quiet achiever.

The 29-year-old is better known for his close relationship with fallen forward Brendan Fevola than his on-field exploits.

The 186-game veteran is playing career-best football in 2011. He is ranked sixth in the AFL for rebounds from defensive 50, has a league-high kicking efficiency of 83.3 per cent and is rarely beaten by his direct opponent.

I'm a big Newy fan and he gives us quality leadership and disposal along with Lids and Houli on the rebound from defence. The only knock I have is IMO this year Newy hasn't pushed forward as much as say he did in the last few years. He's only kicked that one goal in the Dreamtime game all year. He's a whopping long kick when he gets onto one so he has the weaponary to push up the ground now and then and kick a few more long goals.
