Not what a club strapped for cash needs ...
$180,000 for stray Sherrin Ruth Lamperd
From: Herald Sun
September 03, 2011A BUILDER claiming he was injured by a stray footy during a Demons' training run at the MCG is suing the Melbourne Football Club for $180,000.
Antonio Natale was a construction worker for Grocon when he was alleged to have been knocked unconscious by the football.
WorkCover Victoria claims Melbourne failed in its duty of care.
One player had kicked the ball into the construction area at the Punt Rd end of the MCG, where workers were understood to be completing post-Commonwealth Games conversion work.
The incident occurred in April 2006, about a month after the MCG had hosted the Games' track and field events and the closing ceremony.
WorkCover has filed a writ in the County Court claiming the club owed Mr Natale a duty of care to see that he did not suffer injury or damage as a result of their activities on the ground.
