As Dimma said Smith would already know Hardwick's thoughts on footy and be familiar with most of the gameplan. So Smith will be able to get cracking with improving the defensive side of the group from day one of preseason rather a novice assistant who would need to learn as he goes. Good to see it's an additional appointment to our existing coaching staff.

Increase in coaches will hopefully increase our dividends on the field.

Just thought Id say this again in this thread but Smith seems to be a  very good acquisition by our club. Hardwicks bringing in some good people.  :cheers

agree mate - as much as I despise the "wees & poos" hawks, they have had a successful system over the last 5yrs or so...the fact we appear to be implementing some similar structures etc is a positive imo & acquistions like Ross Smith should be applauded...

We made Geelong look panic stricken recruits! Our full ground defense was amazing and Ross has to be a reason for the improvement.

just quietly there has been a quantam change in the off field support with Smith, mellor and that ex VFA coach whatshisname :huh...Youd like to think it has had a positive impact on the playing group, the lads appear to be playing with a more sustained effort than what we have in the past and from the ghetgo to, Not 50 minutes into the game :shh ...i like it
