AFL criticises Channel 7's Thursday night teams ‘exclusive' Mark Stevens
From: Herald Sun
May 21, 2012 THE AFL has served up some rare criticism to its broadcaster Channel 7, conceding its Thursday night teams "exclusive" had not hit the mark.
Seven has delayed the announcement of the teams until the sports segment of its news bulletin, shortly before 6.30pm, but has ignored some games and lineups.
League chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan plans to meet with Seven about the issue, which has irritated fans.
"I think our broadcast agreement has been a spectacular success as we sit here now ... I don't know that that's working though," McLachlan told Triple M.
"At some point we will sit down at Seven and have a chat about it."
McLachlan said concessions had to be made to maximise the value of TV rights.
"It means you've got to wait an extra hour and a half for your teams and that's not ideal for some supporters," he said.
"It was done to give our broadcast partner a slight advantage."
