Craig Cameron on SEN
« on: July 07, 2012, 01:00:50 PM »
Craig Cameron was on SEN at 12.30pm with Huddo, Dermie, Robbo and Walls...

* Not a great week for the Club but a chance to make up for it today.

* No it hasn't shaken up the group. It has galvanised them to make amends for the Club.

* Alerted Dustin wasn't at training at 10am. Then alerted Connors wasn't at Vic Park either. Put two and two together and went to get the in.

* Damien was forthright with Dan and Connors was in an emotional state but it didn't go any further.Dimma reminded him we gave him a chance when others would've offloaded him earlier. Connors was  understandably in an emotional state.

* Dan isn't a bad person but as was said during the week football isn't for everyone. Discussed with his parents, manager and AFL thge support needed for Dan going forward. Cameron told Dan his door is always open as is Lauren Cooper's (player support).

* Dusty's old man is old school. Knows if he mucks ups there's consequences so no probs there.

* Dusty was be training as hard as possible on match days so he keeps his workloads up. Will return to training Monday. Unfair not to. We need Dusty to come back and play good footy for us.

* Hard week for Dimma losing Vickery, Grimes (off to Germany Monday), Jackson, Kingy. Big week given the shake up of the team. A bit shocked on Tuesday naturally but the playing group told him they are galvanised.

* Dusty needs structure in his life. May come concerned offseason when he's away from the Club but we're working on that (getting him to do things outside of footy to set his life up). We hear rumours about all our players and opposition players from social media. Dangerous to base things on lots of rumours.

* Lauren Cooper sits down with him to teach him how to cook and clean as he's just bought a house. How to manage his money properly and put the money he earns now away and invest it so it sets him up post-footy. Setting him up to work or do a trade.

* On today's game - brought in a couple of guys looks to prove themselves (ie. Conca, Batch, A.Maric, O'Hanlon), then there's McGuane and White playing for their careers and Derickx making his debut; We should have a pretty hungry group today.

Martin's 'life skills' a concern

RICHMOND has expressed concerns about Dustin Martin's life outside of football, revealing the suspended midfielder needs to develop ''simple life skills'' such as cooking and cleaning and may be required to juggle outside work with football to keep himself occupied.

Martin yesterday began the first week of a two-match suspension for taking non-prescribed medication, an indiscretion that also led to the sacking of teammate Daniel Connors.

Tigers football manager Craig Cameron said Martin, who has just moved out of the home of club president Gary March and into his own house, was learning to organise his life away from football with the help of the club and his manager Ralph Carr.

''Dustin needs to have structure in his life,'' Cameron said yesterday. ''The times that we might become a little bit concerned are when the season ends and there's not the training programs that he's got in place or the games. But we're working with him constantly to try and put some structure into his life and to be more active with some of the things he's doing away from football.''

Cameron said Martin might have to consider a job away from the club.

''We're talking to him about the importance of having something to do away from football because he needs to have an outlet that's not just all about footy,'' he said on SEN.

Cameron said Tigers player development manager Lauren Cooper also had a major role in Martin's life.

''She sits down with him and helps him work out simple life skills, like how to cook, how to clean his house,'' he said.

''We work with Ralph Carr, his manager, to make sure that he can put proper budgets together and manage his money.

''For a man who earns the sort of money he earns at his age, he needs to understand that's not going to happen forever, or may not happen forever.''

My boys are constantly saying how hard I am. If I work on anything around the home they have to help. They have tried basic: carpentry, welding, gardening etc. They also have set chores each day. They can also cook basic meals and some more extravagant ones such as Dora Wat and Indian curries. If they don't keep their room clean (within reason) there is hell to pay. I do it to prevent a Damien style plight as most of their friends are similarly incapacitated.
