TERRY Wallace has advocated a two-coach succession plan for Port Adelaide - and he wants the top job

The former Western Bulldogs and Richmond coach said a plan - where a senior mentor and highly skilled apprentice take charge - was the solution, pointing to the success of the Paul Roos-John Longmire transition at Sydney.

Wallace's bid to land the Power job was supported by Collingwood premiership coach Mick Malthouse.

"He's the sort of bloke who I reckon would bring discipline, a bit of flair when needed and a person who the players like," Malthouse said.

He said Wallace, 53, was on top of the modern game: "He thinks about it very much like I would in terms of playing to players' strengths."

Wallace confirmed his interest on Tuesday night. "That type of (mentoring) role, yeah I'd be interested," he said on regional radio.

Wallace's odds to coach at Alberton were slashed from $41 to $17 yesterday.

"They're not as bad as what people believe," Wallace said. "They haven't been able to get games into their young stars. They keep breaking down.

"When I did their list analysis at the start of the year, I thought their age profile wasn't too bad."

Wallace said he had a "very clear picture" of the assistant coach landscape and could pick a second in command.

"If you had somebody alongside of you, I'm talking about a really top-line assistant coach that you were actually developing to become the coach (it could work)," he said.

Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said yesterday Port Adelaide officials should include his assistants Mark Bickley and Dean Bailey in their search.

Sanderson said although he would be sad to see any of his coaching staff leave the club, Bickley and Bailey had the credentials to do the job well.

"If I was Port Adelaide, I'd certainly talk to them," Sanderson said.

"Mark Bickley would be a great senior coach, I really believe that. Bailey has done it before and he'd be fantastic in a senior coach role again. with AAP

It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Wallace should be banned from ever stepping foot in another footy club. Except for Carlton.

You wouldn't want Wallet in charge of Collingwood or the WAR MACHINE?

There are some fates that you do not even wish on your worst enemy. Except for Carlton.
