VIDEO: Hardwick and Newman in the aftermatch press conference ...

http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/tabid/11454/contentid/486412/hardwick+newman+press+conference/default.aspx

* Hardwick said the game typified a failed season - "It summed up our season - not quite good enough when we needed to be."

* He said Newman had been an outstanding skipper and he had expected the team to show more spirit for him.

* The intensity in last week's game versus Essendon was unbelievable, this week it was the complete opposite. Scoreboard flattered us in first quarter to a half when Port had more scoring shots. Our intensity was poor and Port's was good.

* Both Hardwick and Newman said the Tigers were confident of playing finals next year after 11 consecutive years on the outer. Hardwick said the finals were where we wanted to get to this year. We understand we've improved in a lot of areas but the season is still by our standards ... a failure. So we've got some steps to make. We think we're capable of making those steps. We certainly get some players back - Foley, Vickery, Grimes, they're really good players who will come straight back in. We'll certainly add a few through the draft [and] trade [period].

* There are a number of areas we need to bolster and we'll certainly be looking to do all we can over the off-season.

Dimma seemed as ready for the end of season as the players did  :shh A great deal of our problems is due to our depth and having to play inexperienced players who struggle under these high pressured conditions. Free agency and trading will make or break our 2013 season....that and injuries of course.
