Richmond star Trent Cotchin favourite for 2013 Brownlow Medal Jon Anderson
From: Herald Sun
October 02, 2012 5:49PMWHILE 2012 Brownlow medal runner-up Trent Cotchin has been put up as the opening favourite for next season, Fremantle's Nat Fyfe is the buzz player.
Fyfe played just 10 full games this season yet still polled an eye-catching 13 votes, placing him on target for a top-three finish had he not required shoulder surgery.
Sportingbet Australia reacted according when releasing its opening market today, installing Fyfe as a $10 third favourite behind Cotchin ($8) and this year's winner Jobe Watson ($9).
"We are happy to risk Gary Ablett at $10 simply because it does not appear he can poll enough votes while playing for a side that won't win many games,'' said Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan.
"Alternatively, Fyfe appeals alongside Cotchin and Patrick Dangerfield ($12) as one of the next big things in the game.
"The other thing with Fyfe is we have already taken early bets on his team Fremantle for the flag suggesting punters think they will win more games.''
The best value may well be Carlton's Marc Murphy, who polled 11 votes in an injury riddled season after collecting 19 in 2011, and Collingwood's Dayne Beams (19 votes in 2012).
