Hardwick on SEN - Sat 6/4

Dimma was on SEN just before midday:

* GPS data went through the roof last week. Game is very rapid which happens especially in the early rounds. Believes kicking skills and efficiency down so far this year due to fatigue.

* Players getting use to less rest due to less stoppage rest time (umps bouncing the ball faster). It will all work out in the wash.

* Didn't make the most of our opportunities last week (5 more scoring shots yet only won by 5 pts). Caught out by Carlton's switch in gamestyle at half-time. Unprepared for that.

* Young guys like Conca and Ellis stood up in the last quarter last night and our leaders did what they needed to do.

* Sydney-Haw GF decided by a crucial contest. So we've put emphasis on that. Ellis by his own admission was poor last week. He and Conca were hard at the contest last night and went when it was their time to put their body on the line.

* Dimma tries to remain relatively stable irrespective of the result. Don't go overboard when you win and don't go off in the heat of the moment when you lose. There is a time though to give a player a spray when it's warranted.

* Dusty not a aerobic beast. Has been B.O.G. up till half-time in both games so far. Will get better from rounds 4-5 as the games slow a touch. He and we know he needs to work on building up his tank but Dimma likens him to Riccuito and Dangerfield. Time in the middle plus 'resting' up forward.

* Needed some run so we always were going to swap a tall with a small (sub on Ellis). The decision was which tall. Vickery was good but McGuane had kicked two and two out on the full. Love the way Luke competes and he is playing well. Like Kingy the players love playing alongside him and having him around the Club. He brings that "down and dirty" attitude to our forward line with his competitiveness.

* Batchelor - a measure is lifting the consistency of your average games. Batch's best games are very good but last night he was down. He just needs to find the consistency in doing the basic things right all the time and he'll become a very good player.

* Find about yourself and the team on the big stage Thursday and Friday nights when expectations are high. We've still got to improve but we're getting there.

* We keep the same pattern during the week within the Club (ie. review, day off, training, etc remain the same every week). The hype is outside. We'll come across some speed humps at some stage but it's how we respond that will judge this footy team. We now believe we can win every game we play.

* Followed the Hawthorn model - building up in pieces. Francis Jackson and Blair Hartley have built up the list. We have players who haven't pushed into the 22 yet. Vlastuin is probably the best ready-made first round pick we're had; Knights waiting in the wings. They'll get their opportunity as the season progresses due to injury and form.
