Richmond coach Terry Wallace said there was no need to panic after the club's 57-point loss to Melbourne, despite the added factor of midfielder Nathan Brown's season-ending leg injury.

The coach's message to his players straight after the loss was to not start feeling sorry for themselves as the season still has a long way to go, and he challenged to his young group to bounce back.

"We've has a loss and we've lost one of our players, and it's up to everyone in the club just to lift a couple of per-cent each to try and do something about it," Wallace said.

Wallace was able to identify some significant elements the side needs to polish - elements that were replicas from the club's round five loss to the Saints.

The Tigers were painfully slow to start which allowed the Demons to streak away to an early five-goal lead. Avoiding catch-up football after a sleepy start is something that Wallace hopes his young group will take from the round 10 defeat.

"That's an area we've got to get better at. I think that's twice now on this ground on both occasions we've been jumped and it's been the spillage of the ball, the loose ball, the opposition have been able to run on and use better than us, and break out and break free,"
he said.

"That's exactly what happened again tonight; it was very similar to what happened to us against St Kilda.

"We've got to learn from that. That's just part and parcel of a young group and a young side and the learning experiences you go through.
