WE NEED MORE GOALS FROM SNAKE
« on: June 08, 2005, 06:20:24 AM »
GOALS thus far

1. Nathan G. Brown 34
2. Matthew Richardson 33
3. Kayne Pettifer 17
4. Andrew Krakouer 14
5. Greg Stafford 10
6. Wayne Campbell 8
7. Troy Simmonds 8
8. Mark Coughlan 5
9. Shane Tuck 4
10. Brett Deledio 4

half way through the yr we can see quite clearly that all our fwds are doing their bit bar simmonds!
i know he plays further up the ground but he is missing to many easy shots and should be putting more goals on the board! 8 goals til now is not good enough imo. lets hope the next 11 games fpr him produce 25 more goals, he should be aiming for 2 goals a gam at minimum

We need to get some more goals from our midfielders as well. 0.5 goals per match or lower isn't good.

I tend to agree JohnF - hate to harp on it but look at the Weagles, Judd gets a couple ever week and if he doens't Fletcher, Cousins or Braun chip in. It's the same with Melbourne -  they seem to get a good spread from their mid filed as well - Johnstone, Brown, Slyvia, McLean etc

Although we've got a few goals so far this season through Tucky most of his have come from when he's been moved forward to give us a different option.

Simmonds has kicked 8.10 so not only has he not kicked many goals he's conversion  has been below par also. After not doing much in terms of goals in the first 6 weeks he appeared to be getting back on the right track against the Pies and Lions (he just couldn't kick straight). However he's dropped off the last two weeks against the better sides. Simmonds seems to be a guy who needs to be on the end of good disposal on a lead to make an impact. He doesn't do enough in terms of winning some 50/50 contested marks which is something Richo can do (Richo's had plenty of practice of receiving crap delivery though lol). As a tall when you're closer to goal cheap footy is a rarity. You have to fight for it and good forwards turn 50/50 situations to their favour.

John is spot on that our midfield doesn't kick enough goals. I would say unlike in previous years our midfielders are running hard and pushing forward. However we never seem to use them as marking options say 40m out as much as we could and should. Plus when our midfielders get to say 60-70m out from goal they seem reluctant when they actually have the time and space to run to 50 and have a shot. They rather go for the pass even if it's a contest. Pettifer and Tivs should be able to kick 50m goals in their sleep.
