The back-line comparison is especially suspect.

hodge/birchall/Burgoyne/Harris/Gibson  v  Houli/Chaplin/Morris/Pettard/Newman etc.

Without Deledios class behind the ball its a struggle.

Their age cliff is about to happen.

Hale
Burgoyne
Mitchell
Hodge
Lake
Gibson

All old and about to retire, could they have won it without those players? Prob not. We will only get to that age profile when the Cotch generation are about to retire. Our 25+ y.o. players are not that good.
The question for the Hawks will be how many go out on a high.

Of those listed, 4 have been specifically recruited from other clubs and 2 are from the 2001 draft.

What is the draft year that will form the backbone of an RFC era ?

RFC have some quality from the 1st round, but where is the depth ?

Really do need to invest in the draft and identify 2nd, 3rd & 4th round talent that can contribute significantly by being ranked 7th to 18th on playing list. That is where a squad will form to run deep into September.

Moneyball will not build a sustainable assault towards a top 4 & premiership squad, it just tops it up.

It's been said for ages that the Swans are on an age cliff and don't invest in enough youth, but they just keep on being competitive every year

I'd suggest that the Swans are on a salary cap cliff.  :cheers

I'm curious to see if the Hawks can cover the retirements (whenever it may be) of Mitchell and Hodge. They're consistently best on the field and from my limited viewing of Hawks games I haven't seen anyone with the same leadership and ball movement abilities of the 2. We got a glimpse of it when the Swans beat a Mitchell-less and Hodge-less Hawthorn fairly comfortably in Round 8, Port beat them in round 10 when Mitchell was still out.

By no means do I think the retirement of these 2 players will mean they will slip out of the 8, but I do think those 2 are essential to be flag contenders and I don't think the Hawks have the personnel to cover the loss of these 2 just yet.

Were you at the B&F last night Ramps, tables down the back were talking about that "rumour"  :lol

Cotchin is coming into the final year of his contract. Just like the carry on with Dangerfield until he re-signs the rumours and speculation will swirl around.

It's all easily solved! Time to tell his manager to get it done  ;D

I'll tell you what the anti-prototype is.

1. Come up with a strategic plan.

2. Announce it.

3. Barely refer to it during the course of the plan.

4. Fail in 2 out of 3 areas.

5. President and CEO stand up at club function and heap praise on everyone in the club for their execution of said plan.
