Richmond failed to spoil the party of Hawthorn’s centenary game on Sunday afternoon, with the Hawks defeating the Tigers by 65-points, 16.13 (109) to 6.8 (44).

A slow start doomed Richmond as it never recovered after conceding the first five goals of the game.

Two straight goals late in the second quarter from Seth Campbell and Jonty Faull gave the Tigers some hope, but the Hawks quickly responded before the main break to lead by 34-points at half-time.

Campbell’s goal was a highlight, as he applied strong pressure with a chase-down tackle in the middle of the ground and then ran back into the forward 50 to finish the chain with a major.

In his 150th game, Jacob Hopper was the Tigers’ leading ball-getter with 28 disposals, followed by Tim Taranto (26), Luke Trainor (21) and Nick Vlastuin (20).

The Tigers return to the MCG next Sunday to face the West Coast Eagles.

'Cost the team': Richmond star Tim Taranto warned after wild melee erupts against Hawthorn

There will be plenty of fines dished out in the aftermath of round eight's clash between Hawthorn and Richmond after James Sicily and Tim Taranto sparked a large brawl.

Sicily chased down Maurice Rioli Jr in the second quarter of the contest, winning holding the ball, before grabbing the 22-year-old by the jumper and pulling him away and showing the ball to him and Taranto.

The veteran clearly took issue with Sicily, bumping him to the ground and giving away a clear 50 metre penalty, ultimately resulting in a Hawks goal.

Collingwood champion Nathan Buckley believes Taranto took it too far in his attempt to stick up for a younger teammate.

"You can't afford to let your willingness to support a teammate cost the team ultimately," Buckley told Fox Footy.

"I understand the willingness to support a younger teammate, but you can't afford to give the opposition this sort of finish."

One clear absentee from the brawl was Richmond defender Noah Balta, who had been booed consistently by Hawthorn fans in his first appearance after being sentenced by the caught for assaulting a man in December of 2024.

Balta was one of the few players on the ground who went nowhere near the skirmish.

Hawthorn veteran Jarman Impey may face scrutiny beyond just the fines dished out, after appearing to make contact with the face of Tigers draftee Jonty Faull.
