AFL coaches 2015: What they need to do to keep their job

As Brenton Sanderson, Brendan McCartney and Guy McKenna all found out in 2014, clubs secure coaches to deals that hose down speculation about their futures, only for those futures to suddenly evaporate when the axe falls. As Sanderson's case showed, there can be very little public warning when it does.

So what does each coach need to do in 2015 to ensure they still have a job this time next year?

Richmond - Damien Hardwick (2016):
This bloke's under the pump. Nine wins to finish 2014 was a handy fillip, but the goodwill generated from that was largely neutralised by the shellacking at the Adelaide Oval that followed. Five years into his reign and without a finals win, surely a finals spot is the bare minimum for Hardwick. Safe for 2016 if: Richmond win a final.

I know contracts don't mean much in footy circles but didn't DH sign till the end if 2016?
Saying that, even if we miss finals next year IMO we won't get rid of him. The RFC hasn't made a truely tough call for a while on player or coach. Just happy to see out a contract and then move on.
I'd hope DH has KPI's for us to be top 5 and also win a final.
Scrapping in like this year and getting embarrassed should be seen as a fail. 6 years without a finals win really shouldn't be acceptable for a club like ours.
Let's hope it all takes care of itself and Dimma is coach for the next 10 years

Partly agree BT, I do think that it was a tough call to hold the line at the halfway point of last season amongst the disenchantment- previous Tiger administrations would have buckled under the media scrutiny and said or done something stupid. That done we cannot afford a repeat of the first half of 2014 unless we have a catastrophic run of injuries
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?

Gerks 27/6/11

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

Why not Mark Williams?
Michael Long?
