Kellaway to return via VFL

Richmond defender Andrew Kellaway is set to return via the VFL this weekend after spending five weeks on the sidelines with a broken jaw.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury against Essendon in round 15 and has not played since, but Richmond coach Terry Wallace confirmed at Punt Road on Friday that the 2000 Jack Dyer Medallist and All-Australian would resume with the Coburg Tigers.

"He'll play at VFL level this week. We just thought that because he's been out for six weeks, we'd give him a chance - especially with that type of injury - to run around and play and enjoy his footy," Wallace said.

"We'd love him to play next week and obviously he's played a lot of footy with Wayne (Campbell) and in Wayne's last game, we think that'd be a terrific finish and at least he'd get something out of the wrecked end of season for him."

Meanwhile, dynamic Tiger Nathan Brown, who has been sidelined since he incurred a sickening broken leg against Melbourne in round 10, was participating in some light kick-to-kick work at training on Friday.

Wallace said Brown had been working hard during his rehabilitation.

"Browny's been doing a lot of work, but it's all been in the pool and the gym and he's starting to look like himself again and that's the main thing," Wallace said.

"Early in the piece, he was very gaunt and really struggling with the whole thing, but you actually have a look at him now and he's the Browny of old. He's still got a lot of work ahead of him, but it's good signs.

"His pre-season will almost start when the other blokes get the break, because he's had his break and I think it's important also that he plays a fairly strong role in the last couple of weeks with the footy club too.

"He's one of our team leaders and he had a bit of time away (in France) and we're quite comfortable with that, but he needs to be making sure the guys are on their job and that he's not on holidays when they've still got work to do."

Even though both teams got flogged, its good to see some of our guys performing well.

Polo, Gilmour (it's about time!), Roach, Patto, Limbach all looked to have played good games.

Dismal day for the Burger - although my dog who loves going tothe footy had a great day with all the attention :thumbsup but considering the week the Coburg Footy Club's had I am not surprised

Was again impressed by Polo - strong in the clinches that boy - give him a game :thumbsup

Gilmour - best game in ages. Got more confidence as the game went on

Chubba Kellaway - was solid will player seniors next week IMO replacing Graham.

Andrew Raines - good but disposal let him down at times

Tommy Roach - best game in a long time. Very good defensively.

 :thumbsup

David Flood's wrap up from last night:

* Best players: Dean Polo - he can find his own footy and has improved his disposal. Yet to be seen whether he'll player seniors but is very close. Roach was a big improver in the second half of the year. Raines was also in our best.

* Kellaway was reasonable given he was coming back from injury. Probably will play for Richmond against Geelong. Although in typical unselfish Kellaway fashion after the Coburg game Chubba said he'd be quite happy if Dean Polo got an AFL game.
