I count 18 players who are recycled/play at other clubs, and im not sure about a couple of them either!

That just shows you how our club has stuffed up the list in the past few years, and how bad our drafting has been.

As of the others:
Campbell - Retired
Duncan Kellaway - Retired
Knights - Retired
Rogers - Retired

Ottens (2nd pick) - Traded for Meyer, Pattison
Fiora (Pick 3) - Traded for Simmonds
Torney - Traded in Johnson deal

Poyas (20ish pick) - Delisted (Injuries done him in didn't they?)
Mills (40ish pick) - Delisted
Homewood (40ish pick) - Delisted
Dragicevic (50ish pick) - Delisted (Injuries robbed him of a career though)
Sipthorp (60ish pick) - Delisted
McGrath (70ish pick) - Delisted
Zantuck (70ish pick) - Delisted
Archibald (80ish pick) - Delisted
Ednie (Rookie?) - Delisted
Vardy (Rookie?) - Delisted

Interesting you look at the delistings that we drafted ourselves and look at how many of them are low picks and rookies, i mean out of those 10 players one of them was a top 40 pick!

This shows you we really couldn't pick for pooh going towards the end of the drafts, and that we traded our earlier picks away on most occasions.

These are some of the guys who would be in our 22-60yo bracket right now.\

Good point re. recycled players.

It must be said that Cameron was a very good deal, Holland was just about gone, Graham serviceable, Blumfield and King risks worth taking (IIRC King started pretty well, and we only lost McKee didn't we?), but the rest of them are pretty tragic.

I think the important thing is that if you are going to take kids, you need to make sure that you have the right sort of senior players in place to teach and guide them through their formative years. Otherwise, you end up like Freo. Hawthorn are heading that wasy quickly.

St Kilda have done it pretty well. The secret to their rise was the ability to take Riewoldt, Koschitzke, Ball, Hayes, Dal Santo etc, while trading for Hamill, Gehrig and keeping Harvey and even Burke.

The Leon Cameron trade was an great deal in the short-term but the Doggies ended up with Mitch Hahn and Ryan Hargraves from it while we only got about 3 good years out of Leon before age caught up to him.

As for the Clinton King trade - McKee + pick 7 (Danny Roach) to the Pies for King + pick 3 -  it would have been nearly the best move in draft history if we had selected Pavlich instead of Fiora :-\.

We have only 6 re-cycled players now and nearly all are walk-up starts into our best 18 - Brown, Johnson, Simmonds, Gaspar, Stafford and Knobel. We've finally woken up that you have to develop your own players instead of topping up with other clubs' fringe/VFL players.

You forgot Benny Gale and Nick Daffy.  No, forget I said that - just checked my book - they left end of 2001.  Hudson left end of 2002.
