Author: Daron JacksSydney premiership player Tadhg Kennelly says the Tigers are the real deal and can beat anyone in the competition.
Kennelly said with the game in balance against GWS at the MCG last weekend, the Tigers of old would have folded but after a “good old-fashioned spray” from coach Damien Hardwick, Richmond responded to win the game and prove they’re top-four material.
“They’ve got enough ability and enough belief to beat anyone in the competition right now,” Kennelly said.
However, he said the jury is still out on how they will perform in September after last year exiting the finals in straight sets despite storming home in the second half of the season to make the eight.
Kennelly said the younger players are stepping up and taking pressure off the senior go-to players, such as Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin, Brett Deledio and Jack Riewoldt.
“They’re getting different mixes in the way they play their football so it’s not just determined anymore on Cotchin, Martin or Deledio, it’s that the maturity is coming from the younger group,” Kennelly said.
Tonight Richmond takes on Carlton, which has bounced back under caretaker coach John Barker, and Kennelly says the Tigers need to come out hard early and close the game down in the first half to crush the Blues’ confidence.
