Newsreels of the 1940 and 1967 Grand Finals
« on: October 08, 2005, 05:39:56 AM »
Here's some old British pathe newsreels of the Tigers that go for a couple of minutes. I haven't as yet put them up on the multimedia page of the site.

The best way to see them is to right click on eack link and save them in full before viewing them.

--------------------------------

The first newsreel is of the 1940 GF loss to the Dees: http://oneeyed-richmond.com/movies/1940GF.wmv [1.5 Mb]

There's a shot of Jack Dyer barging through before getting a kick away.

---------------------------------

The second newsreel is of the 1967 GF win: http://oneeyed-richmond.com/movies/1967GF.wmv [2.5 Mb]

GOLD!

Yeah Ox :thumbsup.

Love the scene of Jack Dyer picking up the ball and sending the Melbourne guy flying at the same time as he charged through. Just epitomizes the legend of Dyer running in straight lines and through anything and anyone lol in his way.

That 1967 GF commentary sounds like it was in the 1800s.  The only problem i have with that is that i was at that game.  Watching that, it seems like an eternity ago - maybe it was lol  :'(

Here's another newsreel from 1940 and some more footage of Captain Blood playing :thumbsup. The clip is of a lightning premiership sort of the thing (20 min matches) the VFL organised with the gate going to the War fund. The clip is of the GF between Richmond and St Kilda with the Saints getting up.
