Richmond request VFL-AFL double-header against Hawks at MCG

Having enjoyed a successful run with Punt Road-MCG double-headers, Richmond are now following the lead of Collingwood and have requested a VFL curtain-raiser at the MCG next year.

Meanwhile, the Magpies, Carlton and Essendon have again sought to host VFL games before selected AFL matches, following the curtain-raiser's successful return in 2015.

It is understood the Tigers have asked for a VFL match against the Box Hill Hawks to lead into their round-18 AFL match against premiers Hawthorn at 3.20pm on Sunday, July 24.

Richmond are otherwise hoping to continue playing VFL games at Punt Road as lead-ins to AFL home games at the MCG. Such matches have been held regularly since the Tigers' standalone reserves side rejoined the state league for the 2014 season.
