Time To Call Morgan and Cosgrove
« on: November 15, 2005, 11:16:08 AM »
Its time for phone calls to be made to David Morgan and Peter Cosgrove. Whilst I have nothing against the new leadership, im sure they are good people, Richmond needs some seriously heavy hitters who can lead. Phone calls should be made to Sydney to have David Morgan seconded to the board of the RFC and immediately put in as President even though the Westpac Boss is Sydney based, he is in Melbourne 2 or 3 times a fortnight and he can be at Board Meetings, General Peter Cosgrove should also be seconded onto the board and installed in an honorary Chairmans positions. Both of these men are leaders and will give the place a massive boost in terms of our image of the field.

I like the idea of having Cosgrove put in in a leadership position at the club, but im pretty sure the army set him up with a pretty good job when he resigned as the head army bloke!

It's up to these people to make the first move and let it be known they would be interested. If they aren't 100% keen then it's not in the club's best interests to have them on the board. Secondly they need to demonstrate they have knowledge of the runnings and culture of an AFL footy club. We don't need another novice president who may be successful in his business adventures yet takes 4-5 years to really understand how a footy club ticks.

I would also prefer that they lived in Melbourne rather than have a "fly-in" president. Alan Bond anyone  :-\.

IIRC General Peter Cosgrove is the Patron of the Jack Dyer Foundation.

Just one question is he a member ;) :help

Seriously - no thanks.

I think we have some pretty heavy hitters already.

Maurice O'Shannassy is the big chief (MD) at Merrill Lynch, Rob Dalton is a senior partner at his firm Enrst & Young, Gary Cameron is MD of the Grand Hyatt Group, each through their roles in business have numerous Business contacts.

I don't think having a bank chairman is going to make that big of a difference
